TWO babies are dead. And at the end of the inquest into the first death, State Coroner Victor Yeo was unable to conclude what happened.

The 28-year-old mother had claimed she dropped the three-month-old boy in 2008 after being startled by a cyclist who whizzed past her.

But none of the evidence presented at the inquest supported what she said.
Recording an open verdict, the coroner said her account was 'somewhat unbelievable' and left him in serious doubt about how the baby suffered his head injuries.

Another inquest is coming up. The same woman's four-month-old daughter died last year.

The coroner said the woman - who gave birth to four babies in four years - was diagnosed with post-natal depression after the death of her baby girl last year, but it was unclear whether she had this problem when her son died.
