THE Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) expects heavy traffic at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints over the upcoming long weekend, and is advising motorists to plan ahead.

Traffic build-up out of the checkpoints is expected to start on Thursday, the day before Deepavali. Traffic from Malaysia arriving at the checkpoints is expected to be heavy on Sunday. Travellers are advised to adjust their travel plans and avoid the peak periods. With enhanced security checks, traffic build-up is inevitable, particularly when a large number of travellers use the checkpoints at the same time, the ICA said in a statement.

To find out more about the traffic situation, travellers may check the Land Transport Authority's Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System, call the traffic information hotline on 6863-0117, listen to TrafficWatch on the radio or visit LTA's One Motoring website (
