A LAWYER walked out of the district courts a free man on Wednesday after he was allowed to compound a molest case brought against him by a secretary at the same legal firm.

The 46-year-old man settled the matter by issuing a written apology and paying $15,000 to the 24-year-old married woman.

He had been brought to court on charges that he had hugged her against her will in June 2008 and touched her breast five months later. Then in April last year, he allegedly squeezed her breast while brushing his hand against her buttocks.

He cannot be named as it could lead to the identification of the woman, who is no longer with the firm. Under the law, no particulars that could reveal the identity of victims in molest cases can be published.

If found guilty and convicted, the lawyer could be jailed up to two years and/or fined.
