LOCAL lender OCBC Bank has been separately associated both the arts and sports in Singapore, but this year it has married the two by commissioning a promising young painter to do work for its annual cycling event.
23-year old Wong Lip Chin's paintings, entitled Against All Odds and Ride Along Honey, have been incorporated into the bank's marketing campaign for OCBC Cycle Singapore 2011.
The bank had asked Mr Wong to expand on a series that he had already done, which had been exhibited at the Marina Mandarin Singapore last year.
He attended OCBC Cycle Singapore this year for inspiration, and worked on the paintings for three months.
Mr Wong said: 'It was different from other commissions. Most companies would have given some direction, but they gave me a lot of freedom. There were no restrictions and no dimensions given.
'I was surprised that the bank wanted to work with a young artist like me,' he added.
