BASED on feedback from the community, most commuters do not want large-scale, abrupt changes to bus routes.

Instead, a series of gradual, calibrated changes to the system is preferred, Transport Minister Raymond Lim said yesterday in a written reply to a question from Dr Teo Ho Pin (Bukit Panjang).

Dr Teo had asked for an update on the central bus planning consultations conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

'Major 'big bang' changes tend to be disruptive and confusing for commuters,' Mr Lim said.

Future bus route changes will therefore be progressively implemented over a period of time, with some to be expected by the end of this year.

Mr Lim added that public consultation exercises such as this one would be ongoing and not a 'once-off effort'.
