PASSION is what keeps the winners of this year's social worker awards going, from helping clients cope with the loss of their loved ones to safeguarding them from family abuse.
The highest accolade for social workers - the Outstanding Social Worker Award - this year went to Mrs Sylvia Mun, 41, chief medical social worker of KK Women's & Children's Hospital and Ms Han Yah Yee, 38, general manager of Marine Parade Family Service Centre.
The Promising Social Worker Award went to Mr Alvin Chua, 31, centre director of TRANS SAFE Centre, a family violence specialist centre.
The trio received their awards on Monday from President S R Nathan at an Istana ceremony attended by 300 guests.
The annual award is organised by the the Singapore Association of Social Workers and the National Council of Social Service, supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and ExxonMobil Asia Pacific.
