SINGAPORE'S chef mission Low Teo Ping has targeted a record 30- to 33-medal haul at the Asian Games this month.

Such a return would better the 27 medals - eight gold, seven silver and 12 bronzes - won at the 2006 edition.

Among the medal contenders is national kegler Jasmine Yeong-Nathan, who was yesterday chosen to be the Republic's flag-bearer at the Games.
The Asiad, which begins in Guangzhou on Friday week, was already set to be a memorable experience for the debutante.

But being chosen to lead out Team Singapore's 240 athletes from 22 sports provided the icing on the cake.

'It was a pleasant surprise,' said an audibly elated Yeong-Nathan, 22. 'This is something that's new to me. It's even more exciting with this responsibility.'
