KOTA KINABALU - A PRIMARY school teacher in Sabah was on Wednesday found guilty of raping an 11-year-old Singaporean girl and sentenced to 18 years' jail and four strokes of the cane.

Adrian Simon, 31, is out on bail pending his appeal.

He was charged with raping his pupil twice in a science laboratory storeroom of the SRS Datuk Simon Fung private primary school.

The first incident occurred sometime between February and March this year, and the second was on March 26.

Simon taught mathematics and science at the school, which is in Kota Kinabalu's Likas district.

The girl's mother had told the court that Simon conducted tuition sessions from 2pm to 3.30pm, and her daughter was the only pupil in the class.
