SOME 350 students got to fight off waves of alien Zerg in the recently released Starcraft II video game - and also grill the company behind it, Blizzard, about the making of its latest bestseller.

This took place at the Youth Infocomm Day held at *Scape on Tuesday morning, as part of a half-day event to encourage youth to consider a career in the fast-growing sector.

The event, the second organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, also saw the appointment of student ambassadors, contests with exciting prizes, and presentations from other leading tech firms like Microsoft and Adobe.

The guest-of-honour, MP Tanjong Pagar GRC Baey Yam Keng gave away prizes to the winners of the National Infocomm Club awards, a showcase of youth's creative use of technology.

Mr Baey, who is deputy chairman for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts's government parliamentary committee, encouraged the students to consider a career in the infocomm industry, and seek out institutions of higher learning like the Nanyang Technological University which had also set up kiosks at the event to find out how they too can be part of it.
