Blood test for FSH is done on CD 3
Blood test for Progesterone is done on CD 21
I did my Progestrone test and my OBGYN said its good therefore I skipped test for FSH.. and did a Cervix Biospy instead to check if there are infections that may be hindering spermies action in the cervix or vaginal... waiting for results..
Hubby did his Semen analysis too..
What other test are there,, I am going to do HSG this cycle too.
money fly.... money fly........
wah smokeyeyes, a lot of short form lehhh... I dont't understand... :x
what's FSH and CD and HSG?
hahaha.. I am so used to using these abbreviation in the other forum.. ok here goes..
FSH - Follicular Stimulating Hormones
CD - Cycle Day (so CD3 means Cycle Day 3 = 3 days after menses arrived)
HSG - Hysterosalpingogram, a procedure whereby an x-ray dye is inserted into your cervix all the way to see, under x-ray if this dye travels to the fallopian tubes. For checking if any tubes are blocked that's why spermies cannot meet eggs..
oh.. mummy wannabe, I thought sending our hubbies to their SA is the first thing to do? (SA - Semen Analysis) Strange your doc did not check your hubby and gave you clomid.
Hello everyone, am new here. Am also trying to concieve and just embarked on the journey to undergo the fertility test. Can i know between you and your hubby, who is paying for the fertility test ? This can be quite a big sum i supposed.
Also, is your hubby very supportive of you going thru various test ? Does your hubby accompany you for every test or you go yourself ?
Sorry for asking some silly questions. thanks
hahaha the hubby HAS TO BE supportive of all the tests.. well, the men only has basically ONE main test where they romance the 'cup' (semen analysis) and the women have to go through so many different tests!
As for me, my hubby went with me for most tests if they are scheduled on saturdays.. on some other where I managed only to book on weekdays, he couldn't go right now as he just started a new job thus no leave..
This thursday I'm going to do the HSG (ink dye into cervix and x-ray) and he is going with me..
We pay for these through our joint account or his credit card.
So far.. each blood test costs about S$30+-, each ultrasound is S$30+-, each visit to OBGYN consultation is S$50+-.. my vaginal scan is S$50+-, my cervix biopsy was S$180+-, my upcoming HSG is $500+-... each visit to my traditional chinese medicine doc is about S$10 and each time i replenish my traditional chinese medicine is about S$8-S$11 per pkt... All prices mentioned herewith are +/- depending on how comfortable you are with your doc.. if I can find someone i am comfortable with, I won't mind paying alittle more..
How long have you started trying to concieve? good to check all early..
SmokeyEyes, just started trying for few months but as age is catching up, i want to fast track it. We are in our late thirties now. Hey you sound like you have been thru many tests . The only test i have been thru is ultrasound last month . My gynae asked me to go for blood test and HSG if not successful. I am scared , very scared of the HSG test. YOu sound like you are very brave, and not a weeny bit afraid of the pain. Can you share with me your HSG experience after your test. I am supposed to schedule my HSG on Day 10 , which would be next week. But a scary cat so a little hesitant to make that appt.. ...Hope yours is a pleasant experience... Good luck
wah... you went thru so many tests... hmmm.. all advised by your gynae?
you r so brave.. hmmm.. my gynae said gave myself 6 cycles of times to try out.. if still no result, then my hubby need to go thru the SA loh...
how long have you been trying to concieve?

i am not brave at all and I am putting myslef through all these because, like you, I want to fast track everything. We have been trying for 8 months now and the longer it goes, the harder it is to stay sane with the dramatic disappointment every month when the old witch (menses) comes visiting.
Why dont't you do your blood test 1st? one on CD3 and one on CD21.. am sure your gynae will advice you on this 2. Do you do BBT charting?? if you'd like to see mine, here they are http://fertilityfriend.com/home/smokeyeyes
Most tests I have gone through are required and I have read so many fertility, conception, pregnancy books so I'd roughly know what the tests are for and when gynae recommend I'd know why he is sending me .
My traditional chinese medicine doc sent hubby for his test during the first visit to see her, that was 6 mths after we start trying.. his results we only borderline 'ok' not fantastic nor hopeless. he is also considered pretty much overweight. obesity obstruct fertilty too.
I did my HSG this morning.. the only thing I can describe is.. hopefully I dont have to do it again... You lie on the cold x-ray table, half naked, my gynae comes and stand where your legs are opened wide, the nice lab attendent shine a light so my gynae can see through the cervix. Gynae then use his metal tools to insert and pull open your cervix (ouch!!!!).. after a few times of 'digging in deeper', once the radiologist is ready, my gynae 'pump' in the liquid... (double-ouch!!!!!).. I'd get to see the whole procedure on a screen above my head so you'd see the liquid being pumped in and how they are inside there and travelling up the tubes... it was an amazing experience.. that ONCE is enough. it was not painful but very uncomfortable as if you are having your menses and someone is forcing things in.
The consolations i have is.. the nurses and attendent at the lab were so nice they made me feel relaxed and not afraid as all these were going on, hubby can only wait outside.
but if this has to be done, no matter how pain I will still do it.. like what mummywannabe says.. do it than regret not knowing what wrong and why not pregnant.
I am 32 this year and its already so difficult to get pregnant.. sigh.. i wonder what else to test.
SmokyEyes, you are brave. At least you have gone thru. I have mine scheduled on this Saturday...still very scare. Called my gynae this morning and asked him if i need to take painkiller, and he advised that if i am so scare, i can take painkiller 30min before i go for the 'stupid' test. I did my blood test on D3 and gynae said all ok. Ultrasound that i did last month was good too, i.e follicle size all ok, lining ok..The only last hurdle i hated most is the HSG test! ( dont know why i must put myself thru this). Honestly, we did consulted a gynae 2 yrs back and result then was hubby sperm result was bad. He would do another sperm test again. Hopefully, this time round the score card is better. On my part, i just wanna check if there is anything wrong with me , so i put myself thru all these...sigh...now i start to understand that 'wei da' my mummy was..
Lets keep my fingers cross that the HSG turns out painless with the painkillers that i pop in prior, and my tubes are fine too. God Bless ! Will share with you after my test ..still
Dont worry so much, not painful.. more of uncomfort and crampy feeling.. anyway, get it over and done with ..
Await your updates..
No worries, dont be scared. I went for the HSG too... was so scared after reading the procedures but told myself that at least I should do it.... I was tempted to call the doctor to cancel the appointment too but pushed myself to finish it.
Yes, it is uncomfortable. And in fact, I had cramping feeling when I got home. So bad that I had to rest in bed but when we know the results, it is all worth it because in our minds, we no longer have doubts and can move on from there.
Smokey Eyes and Hapimint, I survived the HSG Test!!!! Guess what, after popping 2 strong painkillers half an hour prior to the test, and praying to Jesus Christ to let me have a painless and quick test, I did not feel any pain nor cramp at all. I told the doc to be gentle as my threshold for pain was very low and the nurse kept on re-assuring me that its painless. And within 10 mins, it was done and over with. Hip Hip hurray! My tubes arent blocked and its normal
Hapimint, i can still go shopping after that . Being the coward me, every 4 hours, i took 1 painkiller to make sure i dont feel the cramp and i also intend to take subsequent pill whenever i experience any slightest pain thereafter. Really thanks to both of your for your encouragement.
Lets hope the baby dust falls upon us soon
you made it, posionIvy!!
Let's wait together for our 1st baby dust together~
Hope good news will be hear from us soon~
Hi all, I too am trying to fast track conceiving as I just turned 35! Yaknow the statistics drops like crazy crossing 35... *sobz*
Ultrasound, ok, no cyst, no growth. My hormones test is ok, which means I'm ovulating well. Had sex near ovulation day and took out mucus to put under miscroscope, but was surprised to find that my dear husband's sperms not moving! But my dear husband's sperm test is ok, though not very mobile, but in abundance, so the doctor actually say it's ok, as most guys are not good as well. Went for my HSG, even though my gynae made me pop painkillers, it still hurts! Maybe coz I'm one who dont get menstrual cramps much.
So it's still a mystery why the sperms ain't moving under the micropscope, possibly i'm killing the boys before they even have the chance to swim through the gantry So now we testing for infection to see if i'm killing the boys... i dont know... could i be one of the unexplained cases? What next??
Pootz, How long have you been trying? I am not trying yet. Now I trying to yoga everyday to get my spine well again...
But been doing preparations for it... haha... You can try to see traditional chinese medicine first? I went to one before to look at my back then she comment that most women dont't know that they should tiao their body before conceiving.
She says that with some help from traditional chinese medicine, the body will be stronger and so is the baby in the future.... I hate chinese Medicine so I think I will go for traditional chinese medicine only closer to my plans to try....
Just want to check where did you do yr fertility tests?
I'm thinking of getting a checkup too.
hapimint, frankly i have onlhy just started couple of months back. We have been without protection for the last year or so, but no strike. =p Now doing serious planning, but i dont't have much patience.
I know some swear by Chinese doctors (esp tihs famous one in Jurong?), but i also hate chinese medications! dont know if Bai Feng Yuan will help? Might be looking for a fertility doctor soon... anyone have any to recommend? My gf tells me to A/P PC Wong at NUH... would have to do more agressive research now
same here... I hate chinese medicine... I dont't even take those liang cha..... I dont't take bai feng yuan too... I remember when I was young, whenever got stomach discomfort, must go eat those chinese pills... I will vomit it all out.....
But recently, I broke my bone and had to go chinese doctor cos my mother in law insisted. So I went and the doctor actually mentioned to me that alot of women dont't know that women need to tiao ... or not baby will be weak....
I made an appointment to go Chung Hwa Free clinic next month. At least find out what I should tiao mar....and well, how to go about doing it....
Nekochan, my recommendation for you will be to go polyclinic and ask for referral to singapore general hospital or KK. I heard singapore general hospital service better. I went KK. It is very fast. Thursday got Polyclinic, Monday got appointment to KK ....
Then most of the appointments for the tests will be calculated within your next cycle.
Hapimint, pardon my ignorance, you mean fertility test can be subsidised by government also ? How much the govt subsidised you ? I went to Dr L C Foong at Gleneagle and 4 visits, 2 ultra sound, 2 blood test (1 for me and 1 for hubby), 1 SA and 1 HSG sets us back around $1000 already....
So how much difference if i go KK for these ? Just wondering......
Yup.... It is subsidised and I think in total, doing the internal and external ultrasound, Pap mear, 2 blood test, HSG, Sperm analysis for hubby and consultation, we spent about less than 500?
I didn't really count. The most expensive was the first consultation and pap mear at about 70. Thereafter, all the test was about 50 or less than that.
The test you did where doc scrap out contents in your 'system' after sex to see if the spermies are swimming is probably the post-coital test.
Sometimes, our vaginal or cervix may be hostile or too acidic for the poor armyu to swim, could be caused by infections or inflammation of the cervix or vaginal. Drinking too much orange juices will cause that too. Perhaps you may want to try taking evening Primrose oil 5-7 days before your ovulation as this may produce better mucus for spermies to swim.
I did a Biospy to check if any infections too and was diagnosed with Mild Chronic Cervicitis - which could be hindering conception. But becasue its mild, gynae said dont have to worry about it BUT I am now researching online to see if there's anything I can do.
I do hate chinese medicine too but what to do.. I am taking those tradionally brewed ones every single day. If I want to have THAT baby I guess I will do whatever it takes.
Yes! My friend just told me an acidic vagina! I am now awaiting for the test result for infections, hopefully it's treatable. I'm like going through tests hoping for some bad news, so at least I know what's wrong, and so we can start treating it. Morbid huh... Else I really dont't understand why, and i seem to be running out of things to do. I am taking frolic acid, evening primrose oil, and sometimes the Women Multivits from GNC.
Do share your research! Kambate!
