Ooooh MissA, that sounds like some Taiwan never-ending drama series! I hope things have got better now for you.
I’m living with my inlaws and I think it helps that they are not so old (stigma of old = old fashion thinking). My mother in law is just merely 13 years my senior. They might not have had the best academic education but I find they are one of the most respectful zhang-bei I ever have. My mother in law has only one son. She is totally sensible enough to know that if she makes things difficult for him/me, it just might mean losing a son. So we manage to live happily under one roof, so far
Through conversation I overheard between my inlaws and others, they always say boy or girl doesn’t matter these days. So that’s comforting to hear. But then, I find my all my inlaws side are quite traditional. So to make everybody even more happy, I like to have a boy first (if I ever get to a second baby!). I mean this baby popping is for my hubby… I will choose to have a carefree lifestyle if my hubby has agreed on that too.
But if I ever am a single mom (no inlaws to please), and love to have a kid, I will hope for a girl. Statistics show that boys squander their parents’ money, not usually the girls. Haa! Looking at friends around me, girls are more filial.
