decided to go do blood test tomorrow instead of monday. especially after seeing littlej so kancheong on day of bfp.. heehee... I think the earlier I know my blood test report the better.

is there a normal range of hcg level to expect once after bfp?

Quincy, mom law is 90 days before you go on maternity. So no worries!

Happily married - where you going to go to do blood test? With your gynae? tomorrow is sat so most work half day and not sure if you can get the results back on the same day. Hahaha - I am super kiasu . I just need to know what to do and get advice from doc immediately. Even whilst I know do the scan at that time also see nothing and hear nothing. =p

Shez - is it 90 days after confirmation? So usually probation 3 months right? So that means in total 180 days before being able to claim maternity?

Re: We are trying to concieve-ing!

hehe i did my blood test the day after i tested bfp...in fact, on the morning i went for the blood test, i tested on my CB digital stick just to make sure, wasn't getting my hopes up cos I kept thinking the day before might be a bogus one. But CB digital told me "pregnant 2-3". Got the blood test results the same afternoon with HCG level at 427.2 which put me at 4 weeks.

Typically, T-HCG level at <5miu/ml is considered not pregnant. Grey zone is 5-10 miu/ml which you might have to wait a week or so more to go back for another blood test. Anything more than that is considered pregnant. There is no "normal" range at this point because the gynae determines your gestational age by your HCG level and not the other way round because it's impossible to know your exact date of conception.

As long as your HCG level is more than 10miu/ml, it's safe to conclude you are pregnant.

Re: We are trying to concieve-ing!

littlej, if i'm not wrong, as long as you have been of service in the company for at least 90 days, you are eligible for maternity leave. Passing probation or not doesn't matter and once you have declared you are pregnant, your company cannot fire you without any rhyme or reason. If not, you can lodge a complaint and the company would have to compensate you the maternity benefits that you were supposed to be entitled to had you still been employed. In other words, by declaring you are pregnant, it's like holding the immunity idol with you for the next 9 months..haha

I went to the nearest gynae a few days after bfp. No blood test, just perform an you/s and saw the sac. A week later saw the 'yolk'...still no blood test. I figured the blood test is not routine?

Rav, HCG blood test can be done right after you tested bfp because HCG shows up immediately. For you/s, some women might take longer for the sac to show and normally gynae wont perform the first you/s for you until you are about 6 weeks. When I gan jiong that time cos my gynae scheduled my first you/s at 8 weeks, I went to a women's clinic for a checkup. The gynae there told me she could perform an you/s but might b not b able to see anything at that point, if I were to see anything, I would b very lucky. I guess I was lucky that day, i saw the gestational sac and the yolk sac and the gynae put me at 4 weeks plus then even though app told me I was 5 weeks.

Quincy, I did the pap smear before I got bfp. It's good to do before preggy.

    We are trying to concieve-ing!

Thanks tvh and shez for clarifying.

Quincy - agree with tvh. Good to do a Pap smear. I did mine every 6 months. In fact I did one before my iui.

Hmm rav - I guess if you had no blood test then maybe it isn't the routine for everyone. Or... At my "line" wasnt very clear on the test kit used at gynae office (hahah why gynae dont't use clear blue!!)... So the doc asked me to do a blood test to verify bfp?!?

Dragontail - Jia you Jia you! Hmm, if you dont mind me asking - are you keen on seeing a doc as next steps? you know like how some of us have gone for hsg, sperm analysis checks etc. these are checks not yet the invasive methods of conception.

What a beautiful sat morning! Happy weekend everyone!

Littlej, thanks dear. I did think about seeing Dr Chan (is his last name Chan? He helped you with your bfp). My hubby is not agreeable. He still thinks it's "still not time yet" to see a fertility specialist. Well we will try again for few more months I guess.

Hello Dragontail - wahahaha so you got confused by my doc saga too! Even my hubby gets it mixed up =p doc who helped me with bfp naturally is dr chew. Doc who has the fabulous machines and scanning tools is dr Chan. =)

Erm you seem to have a very open relationship with your hubby so dont think you should go secretly see . Not like me - I secretly went to see traditional chinese medicine first then told my hubby after the traditional chinese medicine visit. Like so after the fact I know. But lucky hubby not unhappy. But he never liked it when I go see dr wu weekly after cuz he doesnt believe in traditional chinese medicine but he also never stopped me .

Re: We are trying to concieve-ing!

    Thanks happilymarried, for your encouragement.

littlehammie, indeed at one point I wanted to give up... but following month when I see EWCM, I couldnt resist to cheong trying to concieve again.

littlej, Haa! I knew it. I just roughly remember it's either chew or chan or cheng or chang. Around there ;p

Ok, I just had a long chat with my hubby. Erm... I ended up crying As I woke up today feeling so, I know I'm very emotional today. I asked him about what he thinks now about seeing a fertility gynae. Cant exactly remember how the sequence went.... I know I spoke about we having to ttcing for a year now... reminding him how my age is not in favor in this whole process... about the rising complication if I conceive later and not earlier.... about my mc x2... about me missing my dog very much (yes I used the poochy too).

I know we have a common agreement that we do not want invasive medical intervention for a baby (aka ivf/iui). And that we leave much to our own knowledge and faith. However, I told him I think it's time to rethink our options. I asked him "Do you really want a baby?". He replied "best to have". I feel he doesnt feel the pressure at this point, afterall he's only 32. But I think it's time I express what I am going through. Not that he cant "see" what's happening for the past one year. But I shared that emotionally, I wish I dont have to go through the same thing for another year. Getting fertility help may or may not be the best or only solution to helping us, but at least I know we are doing something more that gives hope for progression. He said maybe in terms of BD dates we havent done enough. I said I really feel we have done enough in that department. If you ask me, one BD session is actually all it takes to create a new being, if all others factors are in the right mode. Seeking fertility help may be our next best option to ensure those factors are in the right mode.

As such, he finally agrees to see a fertility gynae

Sorry if I havent been paying attention to all the notes you ladies have shared before... can someone run through with me what to expect at the gynae's office? For him and for me. And when it's the best time to visit one. My man has asked me to check these so as to prepare himself.

    Thanks.

Re: We are trying to concieve-ing!

Dragontail: hey so glad for you that you n your hubby had agreed to make to a point to visit a more specialist.. for man, there is nth much to expect only a SA test tts all. As for ladies there are more stuff. I remember on my chk, I was ask to do a test to test for clymedia (dont know right spelling not), then blood test likr what I told you before. To check the hormones level. So after all this test, you may be prob to do a hsg to chk for tubes.

There is also scan when near O date to chk for ovulation that need to depend if your doc will ask you to chk anot. that is to chk if eggs are healthy n hw big issit.

So I think for gynae, some may give you like clomid.

Oh btw since you are seeing traditional chinese medicine, you can give the traditional chinese medicine your report (did your traditional chinese medicine ask you to do these tests reports and give her see?" As for me my traditional chinese medicine did ask me to do all this lab test and frm there he tiao my body. N told me which herbs to avoid. As for man the traditional chinese medicine also gives supplement according to the sa report.so if your hubby dont mind he can take the traditional chinese medicine supplements too if your traditional chinese medicine has. My traditional chinese medicine has all this..

But of cox this will depend on your gynae. Every gynae diff method.

dragontail! that is great news. choose a good gynae that both you & your hubby are comfortable with. 1st step for hubby is to check for 1) infection in sperm (we needed to do this before freezing was allowed) but I guess it helps the spermies perform better 2) sperm analysis

for the lady, you definitely need to scan on day 2 or 3 of period to check endometrium lining and see if there is any follicle that cycle and another scan nearing day 13 or 14 depending on when you O. As for clomid, it works for some or most people but for the unlucky few, it does have a -ve effect on the lining for me. my doc did tell me even though I am only 29/30, my lining looks like it is shutting down in my 40s..

also, in most normal cycles, the follicle that pops and waits for the sperm, must be the correct size. any larger or smaller, the egg is quite useless that cycle. I did try 1 normal cycle where I tried to conceive naturally and my egg needed help to 'pop' based on my blood test results.

these are some things you can research about and discuss with hubby first! take it easy and learn together with him. it can be a happy & rewarding journey

by the way, I got my hcg results back!! at 4 weeks it is around 1100-1200! omg! im so happy!

Wow happilymarried, at that level you could easily have been 5 weeks pregnant already! My level that time only 400+ range at 4 weeks. It is a very good sign! Congrats!
