my baby is only 8 days old and she has started to latch for comfort and pleasure. should i be discouraging this? if so how?
also i find myself having difficulties monitoring her feeding schedule when i feed her with EBM. she usually feeds 2 hourly when latched on, but when 1 EBM feed is introduced, the subsequent feeds tend to be hourly or even more frequent, with her falling asleep at breast. what should i do?
yes yes! i am experiencing the same thing. these 2 days she doesn't suck as hard and i dont't think she is getting enough. last night she fussed so many times, we fed her 2 feeds of EBM and she ended up regurgitating everything after the 2nd EBM feed and 2 pleasure suckles.
If your baby is distracted (mostly halfway through or towards the end of the feed), and pulled or bite on your breast, it may be signs that s/he is teething, but since you mentioned that she is only 8 days old, i think you can try giving her pacifier when she repeatedly latch for comfort or pleasure. See if it helps, if it help, you can know what to do.
You must find ways to break this bad habit of your baby, else you will suffer...
Teething usually start 3 mths onwards and if s/he is uncomfortable from teething like increase drolling, attempt to bite on anything, such as your hand, toys etc, give the baby some teething toys to bite on to ease their discomfort.
ya must deter fr becuming habit if not VERY DIFFICULT fr you in future like me. BCus i FUlly breastfed and fed on demand, now my baby 8 month dont take pacifier... always wants to suck suck suck.. even at night wakes up many times to suck!! I find it very tiring! HOw i wish i trained her back then, feed on schedule, give pacifier, or pump into bottle fr her, and ferberize her!! sigh!
actually some babies find it very tough to feed on breasts. they need extra effort than bottle. my baby is really lazy when come to breast. so she suckle a little and sleep. 2-3 hours, cry again. she was also sucking for comfort.
it got me very stress but i was desperate to increase my supply. So, I let her be. it was tough but i thought it was worth the effort. especially when she was uncomfy after her 5in1 jab. the slight fever caused her to be man zang. i let her latch the whole day - even if it was just 1 hr before. it worked her slight fever was gone the next day and she was a happy baby again.
For me, it was not difficult to wean off breasts since she get to take her EBM or FM from 3rd month onwards.
but there was a diffcult period - when i just started work. she was looking for me - especially my breasts at about 7pm sharp! I rushed home and pulled down my top to stop her from crying. She cried very pitifully. Im not sure if this is a bad habit or she was looking for me.
after 2 months, she stopped. now happy with her pacifier to slep.
