Re: Breastfeeding topic?

Hi Bbyew
I've never tried fenugreek although I've read some mommies find it effective. For me, increasing pumping sessions (frequency and duration) helps. Taking rolled oats and ensuring I drink enough fluids help too!

Re: Breastfeeding topic?

Hi BbYew
The supplements will only help that much (varies for diff. mommies), the thing is you need to have the milk extracted to tell the body to keep producing. It's a demand = supply thing. So, the longer and more frequently you pump, the more milk your body will make. There's also this method called 'Power Pump' - that's when you pump for at least 10 minutes more after the last drop every 1-2 hours for a full day (morning till evening) - provided you're not working and have the time to do this. This is one way to increase supply.

If you're not working, letting baby latch on on-demand is probably the best way to stimulate supply.

Hi BbYew

Yes, it is true that fully bf babies do not need water. BM has the water (70+%) and all the nutrients baby needs (and which FM cannot copy fully) so it's nature's best gift to our growing babies. Our body will also change and produce BM to meet baby's growing needs, isn't it amazing? BM has 700 over nutrients while FM can only copy up till 30+ currently.

You could start giving baby some water when he starts to take semi-solids around 6 months of age, although bf babies hardly get constipation even after they've started on solids For me, I give my baby some water especially after returning from the playground or after a walk when the weather is warm.

HTH.

it depends on individual. some responds well, some not at all. the most simple & effective may to maintain & increase your supply is to nurse & express frequently. frequent breastmilk removal from the breasts = more milk production.

Water is not necessary to be given to bb b4 6 mths old. water in BM is sufficient to keep them well hydrated.

Re: Breastfeeding topic?

if you are only giving your bb breastmilk and are feeding on demand. No extra water is necessary. BM has over 90% water content already.

eating natural supplements to help increase supply may or may not work for each. Different people's bodies react differently. So what works for one, may not for another. For me, I practiced feeding on demand and always had enough for my nursling/s.

Re: Breastfeeding topic?

taking natural supplements may help... but usually increases foremilk (that is the watery of your milk). You still need the balance of the hindmilk for your child.

i personally prefer to go the demand supply way.... and make sure i eat well too.

Re: Breastfeeding topic?

Hi, ya indeed a good place for all mummies that BF. I'm facing a prob now. My dd is 5 mths plus now and she is taking less milk. sometimes she only drink fr 1 side then sometimes both, depending on her. I dunno whether is it becos she has sign of teething. i'm going to start weaning her soon.

But this make my production low?? i still feed her approx. 2-3hrs interval. means my milk production is at her demand?? what if she wants more next time?? I have prob expressing too. last time i can easily express out. now pump until ai si only 40ml though is already full. why is that so?? Can any mummy help? thanks

Re: Breastfeeding topic?

BbYew, if you want to boost ur BM, maybe u can try young papaya with pork rib soup, eat more, especially fish. it works for me.

vonn81, you can try to massage your breast before express.
