Thanks 3Cmum. I shall continue to try.
Hi all, my baby seems dont like the ebm from freezer. I try to smell on the thaw milk and found that it have some smell. However, if i keep my ebm in fridge, then the milk will not have the smell. Is this true that freezer milk have some smell??
Yes, frozen ebm may have smell, they say it's due to an enzyme. They suggest to scald milk before freezer storage. Refer this website for more info http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/m...expressedmilk/. Have not tried this personally though. I try to give fridge milk most of the time, freezer store only for emergency. Cos also heard that frozen milk loses some antibodies.
Yup frozen milk might have a funny smell. Even the storage bags that I used said so but it claimed that the taste remains the same. Never tried tasting it so I dont't know. But my boy drinks all 3, frozen, fridge and fresh frm breast. Hehe.
you r rite 3Cmum. When my baby was sick, doctor ask me to latch on so that my baby will get the antibodies. The ebm will lost the antibodies.

You may consider eating some lactation cookies to boost your milk supply.. I have 2 kids, and I had bf problems with my 1st child. So was looking for a lot of help / research to ensure my 2nd (now 3.5 months) has enough. Was spending a lot of money on vitamins. Then I found out how lactation cookies can work, and I tried them out. And they did for me. So I've been spending time trying to work out cookies recipes to help other mummies in their breastfeeding journey. And I finally manage to see some results from other mummies as well! How long can we keep the EBM in the fridge?
Have tried to thaw frozen milk in fridge and keep there for 24hr, the milk has strong metallic smell and small particle. Is it spoiled?
Anyway, frozen EBM can lasts up to 3 mths if you use those fridge with a separate freezer compartment.. If deep freezer, up to 6 mths.

Thanks Diza for your reply. So the metallic smell is ok for baby to drink? Although baby is 1 month old, I think she still ok w it. After she grow bigger maybe will reject the milk. Anyone facing this problem?
frozen milk do have such smell and taste, it is very normal.
my baby is a fussy drinker, initially he won't take frozen milk, but sometimes when he is hungry, he is left with no choice. they will get used to it.
hi all mummies, have many questions to ask ><
1: if i have to transport milk to nanny's house. do i use frozen ones or chilled ones? (transport by cooler bag ok?)
2: everytime i pump i dont freeze it? i put in fridge?
3: can ebm be placed in freezer immediately or have to put in fridge first?
4: store in how much quantity to prevent waste of millk?
5: if i use a warmer. do i still have to shift milk from freezer to fridge the night before ? or can straight take from freezer?
if you ebm will be used up withing the next 2-3 days, then no need to freeze. put in the lower section of the fridge, preferably further in the compartment away from door which is much cooler. can put up to 3 days.
freezing destroy some of the nutrients, so unless you got plenty and cannot finish using, freeze it.
all freeze breast milk must be thaw before using. thaw with running water or transferring to the fridge overnight to thaw. do not put the freeze milk into warmer straight
to transport milk to your nanny house, ebm or frozen breast milk, both can be done by cooler bag. add more ice pack if the distance is far. because any thaw frozen milk need to be used up within 12 hours
How to see if it's thaw? If ebm transfer over must remain cold? while frozen one must remain frozen ?
if frozen ones started to melt down to liquid, it is considered thaw
actually if you put sufficient ice pack, it should last you a few hours. normally those ebm should be used up within the day or the next if you are transferring ebm on a daily basis to yr nanny place.
if ebm is spoilt, it has a funny smell or look. must observe, cannot rule out the possibility that ebm wont go wron if it stay cold. it happen to me once. i missed out that batch hidden way back at the end of the fridge, when i open up, it smell and look different, i dump them away
buy thermometer from daiso, the smaller size one so you can know how cold is yr fridge/cooler bag
but.. im not sure if the nanny knows if its spoiled anot
Oh by the way, is it recommended for lactating mothers to take vitamins like calcium, fish oil etc? I have not't been taking any since my delivery...
Anyway, it is also recommended, so that you have lots of milk and you can produce more than what you have.
