I am having low milk supply hence my plan is to pump at least 7-8 times a day during certain fixed timing.
Is it important to pump at a fixed time such that my body knows it is time to produce milk or it is merely a concept of emptying the breast such that more can be produced?
it is important to keep a schedule.
Try to keep to schedule... Even if for once late try to keep e next pumping time... Do rest well too...
Thank you bruti732 & rodorsany!!!
Actually its not exactly schedule. But roughly every same few hours. you can pump every 2, 3, 4 or 5 hours. Just the more frequent you pump, the more likely your brain will interprete that baby need more milk.
from experience, it is not really the schedule. the impt thing is to empty the breasts frequently so that the body knows that there is a demand. Once the supply comes in, you can drag the interval a bit.
that time i started off with 2 hourly pump. then drag to 3 hourly pump and then 4 hourly pump. to fix roughly the same timing is for convenience sake so that you can rem easily and not miss a pump. sometimes i delayed a pump by 1 hour and then give and take for the next pumping time like mayb delay next pump by half hour. is a matter of manipulating the timing such that the boobs can be emptied and supply will come in.
if you have bigger boobs, likely you have a larger "reservoir" so, there is not need to pump so frequently in that sense. I have a friend with bigger boobs and she pump like 5 hourly and yet still can yield the same amount of milk per day as me who pump 3 hourly. so really depend on individual. you see what works best for you.
impt not to miss the midnight pump. must pump once between 3am-5am cos hormones at the peak and that;s the good time to tell your body you need the milk!
Not neccessary big boobs more milk ... Lol
Like rachel mention a schedule is easy so at least you rem to pump... Of coz timing give n take abit..
I did wake up middle of e night to pump.. But somehow not alot of milk... Henceforth i dont do it.. Will sleep get e rest.. Pump around 5+am.. That works better for me... So maybe you try n error.. For me i think i dont have enuff rest n stress...
hahahha ya, not neceesary big boobs means more milk but usu big boobs mean bigger reservoir.(cos got space for the ducts to be more) the reservoir may contain little milk or alot of milk. definitely a plus pt in a way for bf. hahah
thanks all...i am at more ease now...setting my schedule & if missed it, will make up for it at later time.
I am also resting more now....
if you pump 3hrly you can.do every 3,6,9,12 round the clock. tgats what i used to do. but now at close to 5 months it kills to pump in this manner hence i drag to 4hrs. but make sure you have.enough rest too bcoz if you tired yourself to keep to the schedule, your supply will drop also. and dont be stress. my supply was limited bcoz i was too paranoid and stress initially. now at 4.5months, my supply actually like at least doubled compared to whn i was 1month. but its hard hard work!! looking bck, i dont know how i managed.to.do it. but just dont get dishearten if your.supply is low or.have not.kick in. keep.tellibg yourself it will be.over bery.soon. and keep looking at baby.and feel.happy. somehow.lidat will trigger a let down for me. amazing body and mind.
I am currently doing 3 hourly schedule but now I latch her on whenever possible. With such arrangement, do you think it's fine to replace the breastfeeding session with 1 pumping session?
