My baby is 9weeks old now and my breast milk still very low. Baby has been on FM most of the time. Ive been taking fenugreek, drinking lots of fluid, latching at night and early morning (Im back to work now). Pumping at work every 2-3hours. Still I get only 30-40ml per session.
I really want to give breastmilk to my baby. I may have started on the wrong foot in the early days and weeks postpartum...
Is it still possible to increase milk supply?
When I am still under confinement, my milk supply is only about 60ml per session which cannot feed my baby demand.
After I take sacred tea it increase a lot until 120ml per session.
Of course I pump very frequent also help to increase the flow.
I pump every 2.5hrs, it tired but it really helps.
Maybe I am not direct latch on, so it may a bit different with the others mummies.
For those mummies direct latch on, you can still try to pump out if you feel your breast is not empty...
what you're currently doing is correct. I would suggest also that you dont't be overly stressed as it also one of the factors that may contribute to the low supply.
You may wish to try using a warm towel prior to expressing your milk, also some have seen improvement by having papaya fish soup.
What is the amount that you take for fenugreek? That time I took, I took, about 6 caps in a day.....
You might also want to try the papaya fish soup and drink lots of water.....
That time for me to increase my breast milk supply I also express out the remainder after I latch on my son...even at night though it is tiring. During weekends, I dont express, latch on directly and even at night I also latch on, no FM for him at all.....
If you really want to BF your baby, you have to be hardworking.....and you can try to call the Breastfeeding Support Group or call up any hospital the LC and asks for advise
Have you taken a look at your diet, eg carb and fluid intake? Most of the time, the biggest culprit for low milk supply is the lack of fluids and simply eating things, especially stuff like tea, coffee and cabbage.
In the initial month (and even now), when I BF, I find that I can down 2L of water in less than 30 minutes. Fluids are important as breast milk comprises of 80% water - so if your body doesn't get enough water, how to produce milk?
Some mums produce milk easily when baby latches on directly but not when pumping. I am like that -- I latch baby on most of the time; when pumping occasionally, the supply is always lower than what baby can actually drink.
My milk supply matches baby's demand exactly based on latching on, no shortage and no excess, so I dont't even have a spare bottle of milk in the fridge. I know at least 2 other mums like that. Fortunately, I'm a stay at home mum.
Do what another mummy suggests: latch on directly during weekends and whenever you're with baby.
With persistence and the right knowledge, all Mummoes should be able to breastfeed successfully. All the best!
