i have a mybrestfriend pillow and i find that it helps cos i just leave the baby on the pillow, and then can watch tv, or do other things with the pillow propped up.
when i bf without the pillow, my arms will get sore after some time.
can ask the hospital if they have the pillow, can try and then decide if you want to buy.
regina, if you, touch wood, encounter engorgement after giving birth, you may want to use hand compression to get the milk out. A lact consultant taught me how to, and she managed to express the milk from my engorged breasts with minimal pain.
but when i do it myself, can die. worse than using manual pump. took more than 1 hour to get 60ml from both breasts, and that is if my mum was helping me with the other breast. really felt like a cow then. hahaha
i find that after doing the hand compression, pumping became easier and I could express 60 ml from each breast.
It should be safe to eat abit.
I encounter a good one at mount alvenia
eh does every hospital "provide" lact consultant for all mummies or we hav to request?[/quote]
anyone know about Thomson Medical Center??? got lact consultant??? and with addi charges anot?? hehe..
mine is manual pump ..electrical one very experience...
the reasons why i dont want let baby latch on is because:
- direct breast feeding takes very long time to feed baby till full unless i got fast flow but dont know yet, maybe if my flow is very fast and supply is good then i may choose direct feeding, i believe bottle feeding will somehow faster than breast feeding, save time, somemore i will be taking care of baby alone and need to do housework as well so dont want spend too much time on breast feeding
- i ever saw my aunt's nipples when she is breast feeding, she is fully breast feeding, the nipple become very long because of the long hour breast feeding, a bit worry if i choose direct feeding, mine will become like hers...:S
- i dont want baby to get too use to my nipple... scare she may refuse bottle feeding when i start to work... so thought of getting use to bottle feeding then she will not refuse bottle feeding when i start to work...
so still thinking between latching on & pumping... see how's my supply first loh.. of course direct breast feeding will have closer bond with baby...
for some hospitals, you have to request. and usually, they will just ask you to go to the classes.
if you ask them to go to your house, they will get the external ones and Thomson Medical Center charges about $100 odd per hour.
You might want to look up www.breastfeeding.org.sg for independent ones cos they usually charge less than the hospital ones.
Doris Fok is very good if you can get her but she is very busy.
to have a fast flow actually got nothing to do with amt of milk you're producing. the letdown is determined by how relaxed you are, or how well baby is stimulating your breasts.
actually, direct latching is faster than bottle feeding once you get the hang of it. You can substitute one of the night feeds with bottle feeding to let baby get used to the bottle.
My nipples aren't long after direct bfding. i think it depends on the individual...
If you're afraid that baby may get used to the nipple, then just pump for some feeds n latch for other feeds.
