My supply has been getting more and more pathetic.
I have to admit that I havent been able to express/latch dear daughter on reguarly. I feel extremely guilty and depressed... everyone keeps emphasizing how important and good breastmilk is.
The last time I expressed there was only a sad 10ml of milk from both breasts. These few days I am unable to express/latch due to cracked nipples, I dont know why even my areola area is torn and bleeding.
I really dont want to stop breastfeeding but I doubt there will be any milk at all the next time I express/latch. What should I do?
How old is your baby?
Normally during the 1st 6 wks is when your milk supply level is determined.....
Actually, to BF or not it all depends on you. Some pple due to some reasons cannot b able to BF, but their child grows up healthy & well.
dont't feel sad or disappointed or depressed. And dont't compare yourself to others who BF longer than you, it will make you even more depressed.
I am all for BF, but if really no more milk to BF, you cannot force it. We have a friend, whose wife only BF for a few days only, after which both her kids grew up on formula.....
Their child is now about 6 & 3, and healthy & happy kids
My dear daughter is very impatient type, she will scream and wail very loudly if the flow doesnt please her so if she doesnt get sufficient. Most of the time I also feel sweaty and dirty to breastfeed her directly so I was feeding her ebm.
Maybe the suction level is too high that's why your nipples bleed. You may wish to buy the Palmer's nipple cream to apply and relieve the sore nipples.
Also, do check if the breast shield (or funnel) is too small or too big for you as this can also cause sore nipples. By right when you are pumping, your nipples should experience a slight discomfort but not pain.
hey there, for quick healing try Lansinoh. can obtain from Mothercare. its good and fast. try to relax and dont be stressed. it does affect your output. i had to endure a painful growth in my nipple when i was breastfeeding too but kept going..try your best k? if not its alright take a rest let baby drink formula for few days.. then let her suckle again. i know its hard i am still bf baby at 2 yrs old!
if only one side is bleeding, please try breastmilk. it is the best... , just express abit of your breastmilk and rub on the nipple that's sore/ bleeding. i tried this and it heals the following day.
If it's really too painful to pump, use hand expression instead. Some mummies can get more milk out via hand rather than pump and it's definitely not so painful for the nipples.
Try latching rather than pumping. I feel that pumping's more painful for the nipples coz when baby latches correctly, the nipples are far back in the mouth so the pain is more bearable. There will be pain definitely coz there is contact with baby's saliva but it will be more bearable than pumping.
When the LC taught me to latch baby again at 3-4weeks, I had very cracked and sore nipples but it didn't hurt to latch! But if there's an open wound, it will hurt still even if latch is correct.

I understand how difficult it is to breastfeed with a cracked nipple. I have tried Medela PureLan and Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple balm, both worked. Apply a bit of breastmilk after every feed/pump too. You may seek the help of a lactation consultant to check your nipples. Take care...
