Soreness of nipples - will get better after a while after they are used to the new job they need to perform now the skin can even tear and bleed but persevere on. It'll get better. Can try to apply some cream. I used Avent nipple cream and it was quite useful.
Lumps in breast - I was at one point thinking if I suddenly discovered I may have lumps - benign or cancerous... but after a while, yes, it's really blocked ducts. Problem is your supply may be increasing much quicker than your baby is drinking. A few things you can do - pump after every feed or latch the baby on one side and pump the other side. Can be very tiring on the arms though. But must definitely clear it. Otherwise, the situation can deteriorate and can even get an infection. Then need to go for surgery to clear it and my colleague told me cannot BF after that Also, because your baby's suckle is stronger at the lower jaw, the doc told me to position the baby's lower jaw where the blocked ducts are so he can help to clear. You may need to get into some kind of acrobatic act if the blocked ducts are on top - like mine were (Sigh!). Lying in bed with baby helps. Finally, press on the lumps and push towards the nipple as your baby is feeding - very painful I should warn you - but will help to clear the ducts more effectively. Oh yeah, if you are latching on one side and feeding the other, remember to switch sides. I didn't and so the side I always use the pump with had terrible blocked ducts. Reason: you baby is the best pump. Haha!
