I think it's no 1 more than anything else. Can you imagine eating porridge every day for at least 4-5 mths? If you dont't get bored of it, I'd really salute you.
Children are little adults, especially toddlers and are naturally curious, even about food. It's important to introduce a wide variety of foods in terms of flavour, texture and even colour because a wider variety means that they have a wider chance of getting in nutrients from a lot of sources and it keeps up their interest in food, making feeding easier for you as a parent. The downside is that it requires a lot of creativity from the parent but it's well-worth the effort, IMHO.
