What can we NOT EAT during confinement?

hi,

i only know of what to EAT MORE during confinement, only know a few items to avoid.

Items to NOT EAT:
1. Garlic - when frying
2. Salt - when seasoning - avoid pricky feeling when urinating due to unheal stitches.
3. Do not drink/touch Tap/Cold Water
4. Cabbages or other Non-dark leafy vegetables
5. Cooking oil - always use sesame seed oil as a base for frying all dishes
6. Normal Fat Chickens - have steriod injections - seen to be 'Toxic' during confinement


Can i give u wad to EAT MORE?
1. Sesame Seed Oil - used to replace cooking oil
2. Ginger - Plenty of Ginger to get rid of wind
3. Kampung Chicken
4. Black Chicken
5. Longan Red Dates tea
6. I dink my MIL uses LIGHT SOYA SAUCE to cook all my dishes
7. Pig Trotters with Vinegar - Zhu Jiao Cu
8. Pig Stomach + Kidneys - Zhu Du + Zhu Yao
9. Fish - Threadfin

basically all of the above. I ate practically no vegetables at all during Confinement.

No vegetables? What's the reason?

When I had my 1st bb, she had jaundice and had to be on the light for 2wks. After her discharge, PD said I should try to cut down on ginger since I was on TBF.

WAH!! Useful information since I am on confinement at the moment! I think my CL did give me garlic, salt and cooking oil tho... But her cooking isn't great... *sigh* I have steam fish like almost everyday for the last 2 weeks already... :embarrassed:

veg is ok but not those "cold" veg like cabbage.
Like cancanmum say, cook wif all sesame oil.
If u need some receips u can PM me or email me coz i brought 2 books for confinement foods.

HI! I'm doing my confinement now as well. Now in Day 6. I still take veg, such as spinach, french beans, ladies fingers and kai lan, so far. Had pork, black fungus, dried oysters, dried scallops, lots of fish, fish soup, red bean soup. NO chicken for the 1st week. Oh ya, also taking some chinese med pills to remove wind and phelgm (mine was full c-sect full GA). Till now I haven't poo-poo yet. Must be all the heaty food. But one thing I found out is lots of drinking red dates or soups can really help in increasing breast milk production. And also, massaging with hot cloth at breast while I pump out really help the milk flow better and more. I can't latch my girl coz my nipples are short, so I substituted by pumping out. What abt any of you doing ur confinement now?

Hi michellechin, I am doing my confinement now as well. I have steam fish almost everyday at the start she pile on so much gingers that I have to "find my fish" but later baby has juandice and I ask my CL to cut down on ginger and seasame oil. According to the doc ginger and seasame oil does cause juandice for baby especially if you are breastfeeding.

Oh! My gynae actually gave me something to poo poo... I had a normal delivery so everything was cleared :shyxxx: and she said she dun want me to try too hard to poo. :001_302:

I was only taught to massage while pumping, does hot cloth help as well? I might have to try that later... my dear son is eating more then I can manufacture so have to pump more! He doesn't have a problem latching on but sometime he didn't latch on properly and OUCH!!

Please try apple after every meal, high fibre. I took it everyday during my confinement.

Steamed bean curd meat balls.
Ingredients
1. 5pcs - soft bean curd (cut into halves)
Filling
1. 400g - minced meat
2. 1tbsp - chopped water chestnut
3. 50g - minced salted fish
4. 2 tbsp - coriander & spring onion.
5. 1 tbsp - corn flour
6. 1 tbsp - light soy sauce
7. pepper to taste
Method
1. Mix filing & divide into 10 portions. Roll into ball shape.
2. Stuff filinhg with bean curd.
3. Steam stuffed bean curd for 10min.
Could add in some broccoli to steam together.
Fresh ribs porridge.
Ingredients A
1. 1 cup - rice
2. 1.5L - hot water
3. Dried jap oyster
4. Dried scallops
Ingredients B
1. 500g - spare ribs (cut into small pcs)
2. 1 tsp - sesame oil
3. Salt and pepper to taste.
Ingredients C
1. adequate - shredded ginger, chopped spring onion, coriander.
Method
1. Put A into stew pot, cover to cook for 2hrs.
2. Add B, cover to cook for 1hr.
3. Put porridge in bowls, sprinkle C on top.
Red rice saucy Fish.
Ingredients A
1. 500g - Fish
2. 1 bowl each - coriander, spring onion, young ginger & chilli (cut into shreds)
Ingredients B
1. 50g - red rice
2. 3 slices - ginger
3. 1 - start anise
4. 1 stalk - spring onion
5. 50g - rock sugar
6. 1/2 cup - light soy sauce
7. 2 tbsp - sesame oil
8. 2 cup - water
Method
1. Put B into pot to boil, switch to low heat & boil for 15mins.
2. Remove, allow it to cool & sieve into fish, steam for 12mins.
3. Sprinkle top with shredded ingredients.
Braised Spare ribs.
Ingredients A
1. 1kg - spare ribs
2. 1/2kg - belly meat
3. 300g - mushrooms
Ingredients B
1. 1 - large garlic
2. 1 tbsp - black bean paste
3. 1/2 tbsp - soy bean paste
4. 1tbsp - sugar
5. 2 - dried chillies
Seasoning
1. 2 tbsp - oyster sauce
2. 2 tbsp - light soy sauce
3. 1 tbsp - dark soy sauce
4. some - water to cook
Method
1. Heat up 2 tbsp oil in pot, stir fry B until fragrant, add in A & stir fry evenly
2. Add seasoning to cook, switch to low heat & simmer until ribs become tender.
3. Ticken the gravy with some flour & water.
Drunken chicken.
Ingredients A
1. Small kampong chicken (or 400g chicken breast)
2. 50g - ginger
3. 50g - black fungus
Ingredients B
1. 3 tbsp - shao xing wine
2. 1 tbsp - light soy sauce
3. 3 tbsp - water
salt & pepper to taste
Ingredients C
1. 1 bottle - chicken essence
Method
1. Mix A & B in steaming plate
2. Steam for 20mins, pour C.

Wow. This is great. When I did my confinement, my mom helped but she did not follow any recipe book and I always end up eating steam fish with ginger. Yup, like JacquiLau, I too had to "find my fish" amongst all the ginger, spring onions and red dates. This time, I'm going to try doing confinement with my helper. She's not a very good cook...so have to come out with a weekly menu.

Regarding BFg, I did not have much to start with and had to drink papaya and fish soup every day. Aiyoh....it was a torture especially since I hate Papaya. Only after 7mths did my milk start to produce slightly more. DD exceed SS. Hope this time will have more milk. Sigh...don't you ladies feel like a COW sometimes??
