My baby has recurrent bronchiolitis since 9 months till 13 months now. It happens after having cold, and cough. We have a tough time taking care of him, with no parents to help, both of us working without much experience, we are lost.

We have since pull him out from child care nursery.

I am planning to go TCM, but I am worried about traditional herb too, but western medicine worried me more, because he is still small. I think this is what most parent worried about.

Anyone here has successfully use TCM or Ayurvedic for such baby under 2 years old?

Lots of curing method like cordyceps, crocodile meat, mangosteen juice.....

Cod liver oil is just to prevent viral infection, but does not cure it's root.

Has anyone has cure his children bronchitis forever and completely?

Please share. Thank you.

Nice to hear that. Hope they are outgrown it forever. Did you did anything to try to cure it when they are little?

Hi kelvinfix,

If you are looking for good traditional chinese medicine physician, I strongly recommend Guo Meiling from Chinatown area. See the following 2 threads for more details:

http://www.mummysg.com/forums/f57/traditional-chinese-medicine-baby-30990/

And

http://www.mummysg.com/forums/f57/my-child-cant-stop-coughing-39756/

She is very good in curing baby's cough, flu and phlegm. There was a mummy from that thread whose daughter kept going in and out of hospital for 2 months but her cough still not improving. She went to Guo Meiling and the cough went away in 5 days! She spent $2k+ for hospital charges but only $20+ for traditional chinese medicine and her daughter got well.

I visited Guo Meiling last month too cos my boy was sick and refuses to take western medicine. He would puke when he takes western medicine cos he hates sweet stuffs. He got well after 4 days on traditional chinese medicine. Her fees not ex, $8 for consultation and about $13 for medicine.

The pros about traditional chinese medicine is that it will build up your immunity to fight against diseases. Western medicine often only suppresses the symptoms and likely to have relapse again after recovering.

Me and my siblings were all asthmatic during childhood too. My mum put us on traditional chinese medicine too and we have all outgrown it. Can't remember what age though.

It is important to get the opinion of more than one specialist for this. Also need to monitor the medicine side effects. It may lead to tics

agree with chanel19. Chinese medicine/treatment might sometime be miraculous but you can never be too cautious on consuming them.

My boy contracted bronchitis and I removed him from child care after that. At first he took western med and I slowly switch on TCM. I used to see Guo Sensei. She is very good, she really knows what is the root cause of my son's problem.

After finishing both TCM and western med, I put my son on tonic soup. I boil it myself. 1 is to build the immune, the others to strengthen the lungs. I will start him on cordyceps soon. U cant start tonic on the child when he/she is sick. The tonic will not work. "Xiu bu shou pu"

My son is on strict diet. No sweets, no chocolate, no cold drinks, not too much cooling fruits and food.

Actually Im more pro to TCM, cos Im a victim of western medicine. My boy was abt 20 months old. I suggest for a start you may want to see Guo Mei Ling sensei. She is really very good. For me now is that I give my boy tonic. I do a lot of study in the tonic. If you are unclear I suggest u see a sensei.

My youngest sister had asthma and had to use an inhaler. She has been seeing a Chinese traditional doctor for many years. She outgrew the childhood asthma after many years of trad med treatment. She is now running marathons!

my son had bronchitis when he was 2-5 yrs old, keep having to see doc every now and then. I didnt get him on any particular medication but took the following precautions and now he's free of the health problem.
- keep chest area covered if sleeping under fan/air-con
- do not apply stuff like vicks balm, it can add on to "cooling" effect on the chest.
- avoid watermelon and grapes, cold drinks specially in the evenings.
- if perspiring a lot, pls change the shirt often. do not let the wet shirt dry off on the body.
- avoid cough syrups with menthol in it. menthol is cooling and add on to the phelgm!!
- at the first sign of cough/running nose, get him on medications before the cough/running nose gets worse.

Not sure if ur keen to try an indian herb, it's called "Tulsi" and it's very effective for bronchitis. Can be found in little india. Squeeze the juice of the leaves, abt a teaspoon will really help with phelgm.

Basically, taking these precautions helped my son to keep the bronchitis at bay over the years and thank god didnt develop into asthma!

Hope ur son grows out of this problem soon!
