Oic.. Because I just know I have this problem during my 24 weeks.. So is quite upsad .. Goin the course coming tues .. Dunno wat will need to do on that day.. Izit need to do another test ? Need to buy med to control? Nurse told me that my rate is 8.3 .. Izit too high?

8.3 is after 2hrs or after 3hrs of drinking the syrup?

1st test is 10.1 at 20th week
2nd test after 2hr is 8.1 at 22th week

at 1st i very worried about baby's health, but coping well now.
i never take any medi or insulin injection.
my gynea want me to test my blood sugar level twice a week for 2 weeks on sun & mon, i control my diet after 2 week i just need to continues once a week test.
each test day need to test for 7 times. 30min before meal, 2hr after meal. for bfast, lunch, dinner. last test is before sleep.

i use my dad's monitor - accu chek active to test. get the test strips n needles from tan hock seng hospital or any gov hospital pharmacy. will be cheaper alot.

dont worry too much. just dont drink sweet drinks, outside soup ( can eat noodle, just dont drink soup) less rice cos of carbo will turn sugar, change to brown rice if can, replace food w/ more veg n meat. i still eat alot, like wholemeal bread w/ olivebutter, milo kosong, unsalted chips.. etc

and pls dont diet!! cos once my blood sugar level too high, cos i too hungry eat too much at 1 time.

remember you just need to control for these few months, for yourself now & your baby's health in future!!

My gynae told me to do it 6 times per day (b4 and after breakfast, lunch and dinner) for 3 days per week. She tells me to repeat this every week. But I really cannot poke myself even though I won't see the needle. So I wait for hubby to come home and poke before and after dinner. She is sure to scold me during my next visit

I am with Gleneagles. My gynae lends me the reading machine and give me the poking device. But I paid $150 for the testing strips and $36 for the needles.
I also have the same question: How long do we have to do it? Poking fingers, I hate it! I am slightly anaemic, each drop of blood is precious*

Icic, I don't know too.. So maybe tml I can check with the nurse there or gynae.. As I also not really sure wat I shld do next.. So currently how many month r u nw? I hate poke needle on my finger .. I think I gt low blood problem.. Every time tk sweet to control so that I won't feel giddy easily.. But due to my taste change , have been stop tkin sweet once I kno I'm pregnant.. If really need to poke my finger with those needle .. I think I will faint .. Some more need to test so many time per day.. Think my poor finger will turn blue black.. Although I not scare of seeing blood .. But it's kinda waste .. Lol ..

some gynea clinic got rent out at $50 to $100. just need to get the stripes, needles and alcohol swap.

i cant remember the machine how much, think is ard $100. for the strip i bought at tan hock seng hospital, for 50stripes ard $50, the needle is 25 pc at ard $7. need to get alcohol swap also which cost abt $9 per box for 100pc. dun get from watson or guardian. for the price there i can just top up abit to get double at hospital.

have to test till u give birth.

the blood needed for test is very little. just a small dot. press hard & poke at the center of the finger. the 1st day i test my finger very pain cos i adjust to 4 too deep. now i try at 2 onli. dun think ur skin tat thick also.

nowaday if i feel i eat too sweet i will test myself also. so i know which food is safe to eat.

my gynea is private one at yishun, i going mount A.
the onli way to control to test less is control ur diet. less white rice/ white bread / soft drink.
change to brown rice. if can cook at home try not to eat outside. pls dun diet!!

althou i control my diet. i still eat alot, my baby is gain weight. at 28week he is 1.2kg, i am on the overweight side. my weight gain still now is onli 1kg. actually i am losing weight, while baby gaining.

N but during 1st trim my weight drop till 46.. But nw 2nd trim my is only 53 some time.. Some time 52.. So how to kno whose gain weight? Or lose weight?

is ex hor!! i nvr rent the machine. is from my dad. the brand is - accu chek active. is the cheapest brand is think. my gynea using this brand also.

Joeychen - normally is rent till end of pregnancy. at 1 price. but not sure hospital got rent anot. ur gynea from where??
if nvr rent, then u get the same brand as mine. get it from tan hock seng hospital.

For me, I was referred to a diabetics specialist and I had to buy the blood sugar testing machine which I bought ACU-CHECK one of the most recommended brand. It comes with the package of 2 cans of testing strips(50's) and a box of lancets. The diabetics specialist will ask me to monitor my blood sugar early in the morning before eating, every 2hrs after bf, every 2hrs after lunch and every 2hrs after dinner. From there, he will check whether you will need insulin to help to bring down the sugar level. For mine, it was considered a mild case and I only had to inject insulin once (4 units) before lunch.

You had to monitor ur sugar level closely as excess sugar will be passed to your baby if there's too much in ur bloodstream. Then baby had to produce additional insulin to get rid of the excess sugar pass to him and which generates more energy out and he will become a big baby ending up u had to C-sect. Also once he's born, he might hv jaundice and anaemic...

Hi I had GDD too when I was pregnant and only discovered at 36 weeks! My gynae sent me for the course too at KKH and the nurse will teach u how to monitor ur blood sugar and diet. They will prepare breakfast, snack, lunch, high tea and dinner for u to gauge how much to eat and what to eat and what food to avoid. I had to monitor my blood sugar for 6 times a day for 3 days as I had to be induced at 37 weeks. Lol KKH will lend u the glucometer for free if u attend the one day course but u must return it after u deliver or they will charge u. Hope my reply helps u!:001_302:
