Hi just wanna share any mummies here bring ur special child to other treatments and/or activities? And do they works?

My 28 month boy is diagnose with GDD. He is attending EIPIC twice a week. He be having PT/OT/Speech therapy at EIPIC once a week for each therapy. On top of that, I will bring him to chinese tuina cum accunpunture once a week and just starting him on chiropractic twice a week. Trying to fit in swimming schedule for him at least once a week, though not very successful as cannot swim after accunpunture plus both me hubby working FT, so rather hard to fit in everything during the wkends. Our everyday is so packed with the school, treatments and also time to do the therapies at home taught by the teachers/therapists at sch. Any mummies share the same view? And/or doing etrax for your kid?

Previously took DD for Tuina. Then also enrolled her for Aquatic Readiness (swim), now dropped both. At the moment, I DIY activities. Make use of nearby playground do exercise or DIY 'items' at home. Dont want to buy costly items n then find place to keep.

yr 28mths can try TumbleTots = softplay cum exercise.

Hi sushigal,

My boy is 18 months old - CP quad spastic, GDD and a bunch of other medical conditions. He goes for weekly physio (in pte practice) and sees his osteopath fortnightly. He also sees NUH PT & OT once a month and ST when he needs to.

My personal take is that what's more important is the daily exercises & play therapy that are done at home coz we've seen heartening improvement when we keep up a sustained and sustainable routine for our boy.

Hi Angelmum, do TumbleTots accept special children? Couldn't surf their web now. very slow.

Why did not you continue your daughter for the tuina and swimming? Can share what kind of DIY items you use at home? Therapist want us to get a big gym ball for dear son, but couldn't find the extra big one outside lei.

Hi sushigal,

I'm on flexi-work arrangement with my school so I teach Mon, Wed & Fri. When I'm at work, my mum exercises & plays with Seb with my maid's help coz my mum's in her 60s. I've arranged for his med reviews & therapy appointments on my off-days. If no appointment, I take over from my mum.

We don't exercise him the whole day coz we've established a routine around his feeds, bath-time, naps etc. We do physio exercises late morning & late afternoon to wire his body clock into a predictable routine and to match his going-out days when he goes to the physio clinic. Late evening is play therapy plus his routine of sitting on my dad's lap to watch night-time TV with grandpa :) There's also feeding therapy/oral stimulation during late morning. Some evenings I take him out for walks or to nearby mall for a change of scenery.

I would love to stay home full-time with Seb but need to supplement income to keep up with his med expenses (esp medicine) and therapy. I've pretty much given up buying anything for myself! hahaha. Whenever I see a skincare product (a weakness of mine), I would be mentally calculating how many therapy sessions that would be equivalent to :001_302:

I dropped tuina cum accupucture (needles on head only cos she moved too much) at Kwang Wai Shui Hospital TCM cos find it too far. Very cheap, only $8+. Nearby Jurong East/Sunset Way also has TCM but cost $18+.

Previously DD attended Aquatic in sch n the system in her old sch was 1 caregiver to 1 kid. But when we finally got a place at new sch, found some caregivers dont get into the pool thus the instructor cant move around to coach.

DD ex-classmate found a pte softplay to 'play'. It depends on whether the person in-charge willing to accept yr child into the grp cos targeted grp to join are babies (normally younger than our kids) .... try calling TumbleTots or its rival.

Our PT wanted us to buy a foot placement ladder to let her walk but we happen to have a double-decker bed ladder so we put it on the floor to walk. I made her a swing (bag style). Lately found Ikea selling around $50+. Cheaper than getting from sch. What I really made/DIY is a giant cot. Instead of sleeping in a small baby cot, we got a single bed and fenced it. She has more space to roll and turn.

Get a gym ball fm shops like Abbi (not sure of the spelling, they got stores selling gym/workout equipment) or ebay

icic... at least ur co allow u to work on flexible hours... Can share wat u do for the play therapy? Juz play? Will u read story books or flashcards to ds?

I m thinking of quitting my job to have more time with ds at home, so I can do more therapies or play with him... At the moment now, even though mum is doing for him on the basic ones, i feel he need more on the challenging ones... I can only do those flipping once at nite daily, and feel not enough lei... haiz but dun tink financially we r strong to do that... especially ds treatments r not cheap... and once a while, we'll get surprise news to get special equipments for ds...

Angelmum, the tuina at your side is cheap lei... Is it tuina cum accunpunture $8?? Mine is $35 each time... How long had dear daughter did the accunpunture? Do you see result? Coz it has to be done long term ...

Since you drop dear daughter out from Aquatic, but did you bring dear daughter to swim or rather play with water yourself? Heard swimming can strengthen the muscles and they will have more strength...

I did try asking one of the sch... can't rem the name... located at orchard... they want me to ask my doc/therapists whether can send dear son there or not... coz they will do turning and all big movements one... n they are not cheap... so we drop the idea... and thinking we might as well help dear son do more therapies at home...

I already tried looking for the gym ball at Abbi and other sports retail shops as well as ebay... but they dont have the big one... The biggest they have is 75 where I m looking at 95. =(

Hi sushigal,

Flexi-work arrangements are common in my school and the mummies who opt for it select the type (got different permutations) that works best for them.

My boy has severe brain damage in his frontal lobe so he's highly impaired physically & mentally. Regular story books & flash cards don't quite work for him coz currently we're doing sensory play to stimulate his different senses. So we use textured books with sounds, wooden boards with sounds (when he matches the different cut-outs of the boards into the designated spots). a bowl of cold water or a vibrating toy to put his hands on, so he experiences different sensations. He likes us talking to him in dialect(!) with varying tones & inflections while making animated faces at him. Rest of the time, it's just play so that he has fun and is happy.:Dancing_tongue:

As parents of special needs children, we always think that what we do isn't enough and would be good to do more. Maybe you want to consider what can be done in a sustainable manner so that whatever exercise or play therapy routine you decide on is carried out long-term without burning out or stressing out whoever's involved.

Yeah, adaptive equipment is expensive. Seb uses AFOs, special chairs and seating, bath chair, exercise ball. Btw, you mentioned you were asked to get a particular stroller that's very ex. Would this stroller be an acceptable alternative? Our physio recommended it and we'll be getting it for Seb once he outgrows his regular one (thankfully his special seat fits nicely into the conventional stroller we bought before his birth). Here's the link:

Special Tomato® EIO Push Chair - What's New? -adaptivemall.com

I think after currency exchange rate & shipping charges, it's significantly less than $3.5k!

It's a buggy that is recommended to him. Something like this DNR Wheels Pte Ltd cost $3.8k!!!

The normal stroller I got is really a normal Peg Perego Pram retailing outside. It's not 100% ok for ds, so thinking of modifying a bit.

Yes I saw this push chair from adaptivemall before. Thinking how and the $$ to ship the item back to singapore, as dun tink singapore have yah. But no real piece to let ds try on, scare later not suitable then worst.

Hi mummies, great that you ladies going for Miracle Service.. I really believed that God is doing his work in your children in his own ways..

Beside bringing my boy for OT, ST etc,
We have been bringing my 19 months boy to healing rooms at Church of Our Saviour (Queenstown) weekly for the past few months...
We suspect he might be having Autism...
My boy has since improve very much on his eye contact, communication etc..
