Beautiful tribute to single mother working as a food delivery rider who died last week

( – )

Ho Mei Li, also known as Phoebe, or to those in the food rider community in the Woodlands area, “e-bike number 25”, was with two of her friends when an unfortunate incident happened on the early morning of 7 October 2021. She was 35.

Phoebe, a single mother, had little financially but she wanted to give the very best future to her two children, aged 10 and 15. Her youngest sister, Rachel, recounted, “all Mei Li wanted was to be able to buy a flat where she and her children can call home”. To that end, in the past one year, she toiled especially hard. She goes the extra mile to earn that extra commission so that she can save up for her children’s future. As much as she wanted to, one of her regrets was that she was unable to spend as much time with her two boys as she would have liked. She hopes her two boys can, in future, understand why mummy couldn’t spend more time with them. She worked, with them and their future constantly on her mind.

She leads a simple and honest life. As an affectionate person, after buying lunch for her boys and before she goes to work, she would make it a point to say “Mama loves you dearly” to her boys. Due to her educational background, she wasn’t the most articulate person, so she expresses her love towards her family in her own little way by placing a “love-shaped symbol ❤” before the name of each of her family members, including her Dajie and Erjie, in her phone contact list.
