Hi All,

I know this might not be the right forum for my complaint, but I am devastated to find some helps.

Recently I was going through divorce procedures. My divorce supposed to be a contested case and I found a lawyer through a website. The agreement signed was 6 to 9k for such contested case. However, in the end my case has turned out uncontested, but I was given a huge bill of 7k. I have checked market rate for uncontested case is approx. 2.5 to max 4k. Hence, he has grossly overcharged me. After negotiation he still think he is right.

In additional his service is super lousy. There is no meet up and no explanation given. After few emails of complaint, he left my case with a intern who has made so many mistakes.

I already have stressed over my divorce and now l am stressed over my lawyer.

Anyone can advise me what should I do?

Thanks

Samsoon

I almost facing same thing as u. Had a lawyer for the start of my divorce case, along the way there is PPO/MSS which i handled myself. Apparently there are a lot of email/call exchanged between both lawyers and it was certainly costly, and every few months i need to pay the bill and put a deposit before they continue to work. My lawyer didn't really help to save cost by asking me to submit AOM and fight straight since there is no room for negotiation, and keep attending case conference without telling me. Ended up it was dragged for too long and til date i already spent nearly 10k even before the first AOM submission. Thus i withdraw my lawyer as i cannot afford anymore. Went to legal aid twice and got rejected despite referral by my social worker. Now i got to face it myself with no confidence.

Frankly speaking you didn't pay for high price, nearly 10k with mediation is market rate. I am asked to pay 7k just to do administrative work.

i would suggest you find a lawyer from a religious institution cause i find that they are more grounded? you can sometimes find their advertisements on the newsletters and they are more understanding of ones situation. knew of someone who engaged the service of a lawyer who was from a catholic church and they were able to come to terms as to the fees and etc.

you might want to give that a shot.

hi i had the same issue as you but mine is worse. i took one from abdul rahman and lawyers and another after him called regina chamber and both were more than lousy .they were lazy and irresponsible and the 2nd one took 3000 just for messaging me at whats app and its the Honorable Registrar and his office that have helped me so much that I am able to do this case myself so i am naturally very grateful to them and for agood divorce lawyer i only relaise this much later there is this law firm called ESwaran and Tan at chinatown piont .,very accessible ,and he is a very honest man and senior lawyer with tons of experience and charge very reasonable fees and its the best qoute i got after all the high fees i was quoted by other juniors and inexperience lawyers even .aFor Regina chambers i have filed a case at law society as she refuse to refund me a penny back even so much for honesty in the legal industry its such an irony isnt it?
Luckily The Most Honorable Registrars and office are still so righteous and gracious and that saves the day .

To reduce the fee, try to collect all your questions to the lawyer and ask them all at a time, it would be better than calling or messaging him every time a question pops up in your head. Make up a plan together with your lawyer where you agree on deadlines and fees, so that you're not surprised afterwards. You can also save your money while you fill in some forms by yourself instead of your lawyer. Take a look at some explanations here https://rightlawyers.com/divorce-family-law/las-vegas-divorce-blog/, find a flat fee lawyer instead of an hourly paid one.

He had no right to address the trainee, and you should sue for an appeal. That's how I won a car accident case

A car accident has several contestable concepts. In the first place you should not go to a lawyer for the documents, but immediately turn to a lawyer, which in advance leads your whole family. The lawyer of the accident will ensure the proper fixation of all the circumstances of the accident by the urgent departure of the lawyer to the place of the accident, will protect the client at the stage of the pre-trial investigation, the trial. This will save you from the illegal actions of representatives of the traffic police, insurance companies, etc. If you do not know how to choose it, read the cases here https://www.rflaw.net/practice-areas/personal-injury/car-accident/. Maybe they will help you make the right choice. When the situation is urgent, you will have no time to deal with it.

When I decided to divorce my wife, I did not know how much paperwork I would have to draw up, what kind of difficulties awaited me in court, and what ended up for me in court.

I remember when we decided to divorce my ex-wife, how long that painful process lasted. I was faced with a lot of problems. First of all, I didn't know which lawyer to contact. I understand that this is a severe issue that should be solved with a proven lawyer so as not to run into problems in the future. Many lawyers charge enormous sums of money for their services, but they are not professionals. To avoid such a considerable expense, I was advised to contact the lawyers from this company https://swpdxlaw.com. The specialists helped us with the divorce. I did not encounter any problems when we were getting a divorce. The process and preparation of signing some primary documents were much easier than I imagined it would be. So now, when I find the need to go to lawyers for help, I choose these experts because I have already experienced them and know what they are capable of doing.

You should read your Warrant to Act before you sign up with the law firm. This is good article before you proceed with divorce singaporedivorcelawyer.com.sg/engaging-a-lawyer-the-letter-of-engagement-and-warrant-to-act
