it's not a MUST!!!! but my gal eat amost everthing. everything to her is a new try when she see us eating. Will let her tried BUT not finish up the whole thing. Too much sugar is not good for children esp she is still so young. Grand parent are like that. my MUM also!! LOL

I let my son try ice-cream when he was 15 mth old, and naturally he loves it. I guess it depends on you. My son is eating solids quite well since 14 mth and so long as he's taking his normal meals, a little bit is ok bah. I usually just give him 1/4 once in a blue moon (our family seldom takes ice-cream anyway).
One golden rule though, no ice-cream or snack 1hr before meals.

for me, once in awhile is okay when the child is older. my son tried almost everything (except seafoods like sotong, crabs etc) once he entered 15 mth. but we do it in moderation. anw, it depends on how comfortable u are. if u are not comfortable with ur child eating all these, then just tell ur mil dont feed him lorrr, if just once in awhile maybe u can just close one eye (if u're ok with it) =)

How about homemade ice-cream? Can blend milk, water, yoghurt and fruits, then freeze. Don't add sugar. :)

Personally, i love ice-cream, ha! I only let my boy eat vanilla ice-cream / gelato at 2+ years old. Usually good quality ones, less/no additives, coloring, etc. And only half scoop after meal, max once a week.

I exposed my boy to all kinds of food that incl. ice cream when he is abt 12 mths o. To me as long as it is not a daily routine, I am ok abt it.

I let her try a couple of slips when she was about 13-14 months old? Never the whole lot at one go.

Wow, cool. can i have the recipe for the homemade ice-cream?

My baby boy just tried swensens icecream cake at 9 months old - now i think i am wasting my previous efforts by introducing him sugar stuff as i have tried to mantain all organic and no sugar no salt. :embarrassed:
