Employing maid

I know my maid agency, the boss of the agency actually has several maid agencies. When there are transfer maid, they will swap here and there. There was once I waited for 2 months and no maid, and they dont't want to give me transfer maid. I was so upset, my husband and me went down to the shop to scream at the girls, demanding a refund. We made a very hoohaa, and the next day, they told me they have a maid for us to use for the time being while waiting for the maid of my choice to come from Phillipine.

That time, I was about to due anytime and without a maid, no one is going to help me with the household chores and the baby. I was so stress, I was crying already. With the baby about to due and no help, and the agency keep promising to deliver and never deliver, I was in depression... I live in a double storey house so w/o a maid is not a joke ... These people at the agencies, when you are very nasty, then they will try to speed things up for you. If you are nice to them, they will jiak gao gao(eat your meat and chew your bones)...

The agency that I went to: Singapore Maid Agencies Reviews: Greatlink Employment Agency

I should have searched the web! We got conned by Greatlink Employment Agency also. We had the trauma of having to change maids 3 times in 1 year, and ended up having no maid!... and those so-called agents at Greatlink will anyhow stuff unqualified maids to you. We definitely got our bones chewed by Greatlink. Parents - YOU ARE WARNED!

Hi,

i would like to start off by saying i am not an employment agency. just recommending an agency that i thought is good.

Took a maid from this agency 4 months back. Small office but personalised services. Not those bigger branches where it is too sales oriented and pushing me to simply take a maid from them. Took time to understand my needs (elderly mum) and made recommendation which i think suit my needs.

Current maid is hardworking. Only drawback is sometimes i need to repeat a few times as she is a little slow. Good thing she is attentive.

The agency that i took from informed me that if i find her service good to recommend more frds. And she will give them a discount. Anyone needs a reliable maid agency contact can email me at newbeginings.rc@gmail.com or sms 87174414 (Not sure how much discount can get though as she never mention, but i think should be reasonable)

I got mynmar maid. I worry about their English and attitude at first. But after 1 yr, she quite good and can communicate well, if her attitude good is willingly to learn, it is not any problem. We must teach her and explain to her too. Beside a lot r new and first time here. sometime is luck...

Dear Mummies,

I like to caution you on my bad experience with this maid agency - 1st Allbest Human Resources.

Here is the story (and i have a video confession from the maid which I submitted to MOM):

I took a fresh philippino maid from them in Dec 2014. During the phone interview and biodata advertised on their website, it indicates that this maid has worked in Philippines before taking care of baby for 2 years. When the maid arrived in Feb 2015, one week after she worked in my house, she asked to be returned to agent insisting she is not the person I interviewed. The agent denied that she is telling the truth, and got the Philippines training centre counterparts to counsel her - in which she told me she will try to work but still insisting that she is not the person I interviewed.

2 weeks later, she again told me she wants to go back to agent as she heard her sister's employer's neighbour is looking for maid. Again, I shared with her that I have paid $700+ for her documentation and processing fees to bring her into Singapore and she is aware that this job is to care for baby. She cried for 2 days (during CNY), and again insisted that she did not speak to me over the phone and was not aware that this is a baby job. In fact, in a video confession which I recorded, she confessed that her previous employer in Philippines does not even have a Baby and she only does household chores.

Fearing that she will harm my children or end up crying non stop,I had no choice but to sent her back to agent. Agent took her in but within 2 weeks, transferred her to her 'employer of choice' - which is her sister's employer's neighbour.

While I do agree that maids (just like any other normal employee like us) have the right to choose employer. I have to say that it is very unfair to employers like myself to have to pay the documentation fee to bring her into Singapore and having her only work for less than a month. To the agent, they double earn the documentation fee I have paid for her and then the next round of documentation/processing fee that her new employer is paying. Furthermore, this is a serious case of misrepresentation where the maid agency advertise a biodata that is incorrect and conducted a phone interview where the person we are interviewing is not even the actual maid we hired.

I hope sharing this experience will help you mummies to beware of agencies that misrepresent their maids.

Dear all,

If anyone is looking for maid, pls don't not employ Naw Kry Sar from Myanmar, PR no. as 0 92497402. She make a false Declaration on MOM biodata and I have reported her to MOM. MOM have notice this case and have a records on the maid data. Now whoever want to apply permit for her, MOM will alert on the system to get reference from the pervious employer. I believed maid must be honest and willing to learn but this Myanmar doesn't have. So beware.

If you need more details, you could e-mail me at aprilapril456@yahoo.com.sg, i don't think here can share this issue.

I will like to share my positive experience with this agency i engaged to hire my Filipino maid -1st Class Maids & Employment Agency, after reading many positive reviews about the agency.
I really enjoyed First Class Service from this agency from the point i called them to enquire about the maid till today, after my maid has arrived.
No need to step out of my house for any paperwork or fetch the maid etc at all.
So convenience and easy and the fees he charge are very reasonable considering the service level offered.
In fact i chose his agency even though there are some agency offering rates at $100 to $200 cheaper because i consider the time saved and convenience offered much greater value.
Whenever i have questions or need assistance, the owner - Ted will always be willing to answer my questions or attend to it even if it is late hours.
Even if he is overseas, he will respond as soon as he is available.
He is honest and upfront to say that he cannot offer lifetime guarantee that all his maids will be good because they are human afterall.
But whenever there are issues, he will try his best to settle, failing which he will find a replacement asap.
I do not gain anything from sharing this but i will like such a good agency to continue to prosper and be there for the benefit of us - Employers

Thank you for the information.

Is it better to go for agency? As I have heard some you can do it yourself,is it cheaper that way?
Hiring maid yourself can be cheaper but it won't gurantee you a good maid . But with agencies you can hire the right maid even without any fees or commissions required.

Hi all,

I am helping my maid to find a good employer for her to transfer.

She is a Filipino of 33 yrs old and speaks fairly good english, understands some simple chinese too as she has worked for a Chinese family for 4 yrs before joining me for 3 years. Now my son is 4 yrs old and i'm sending him to full day childcare, so i don't need a full-time stay home maid anymore.
We are also a chinese family. This maid has been with me for going to 3 years this February 2016. She took care of my boy from around 1 year old.
She is quite diligent and does the housework and looking after my boy. She can follow recipe well and does not have attitude problem. She also can help to teach my son some preschool work which i bought. I have changed 2 maids before and i am happy with this maid so far.
Anyone interested do PM me for more details.

Hi ladies, I am considering hiring a domestic helper. My daughter now is taken care by my parents after school. However, my parents have 4 other grandkids and it has become too overwhelming. I was looking online to get advice on how to find a domestic helper or if there are any other alternatives. I found this article quite good as it introduces several platforms and breaks down the cost of hiring a domestic helper. It also suggests part-time agencies where you can hire part-time baby sitters.

Kinderful Blog - How to find a maid in Singapore and the costs involved

Appreciate any advice

Pls do not use A Pratama Employment Agency. They recommended 2 "good" maids within 3 months.

First one actually dont want to share room with my kids but was scolded by agent the night before we collected her. Only after staying with us for 1month, she shared the truth and requested for transfer as she wanted her own room.

The second maid claimed to be good with children but is now requesting for transfer as she was not happy after getting scolded as she was enjoying herself in the air conditioned gym for 1 hour instead of supervising my 2 kids at the swimming pool.

On another occasion, she allowed my 2 kids to play downstairs alone at the carpark while she stayed at home. Fortunately my husband came home early that day and brought them up immediately.

If you have babies or children, pls do not hire this maid (Thidar Nyunt WP : 92977757) for the safety of your kids.

We have been alerted by supportive employers to respond to the above attack on our agency and the two Myanmar maids by a dishonest , malicious & wicked employer Mummy 1111-Lily Peh.

Our agency has been advised by the authority, obtained written legal consent and thus has the legal rights to open up the truth and tell the other side of the story to safeguard our reputation built over the past 12 years.
Lily Peh came with her husband Mr Chua to our agency on 25 Oct 2015 after googling websites for a “good agency with good employers’ comments”. Lily Peh stays in a condo unit in Telok Kurau with her husband Mr Chua and two young children, boy (9) and girl (8). They had a big dog.
She told us that had bad experiences hiring maids as all the maid agencies encountered and maids hired before were all bad! As such she had had no maid for one year because she had changed too many maids.
Lily Peh asked for Myanmar maids. We told her we did not bring in any fresh Myanmar maids who are all poor in English and mostly under-aged. We told her that we only specialise in the recruitment & placement of ex –Singapore Myanmar maids who can speak “Singlish without grammar”. We told Lily Peh that while we had personally interviewed every ex-Singapore maid to build up every biodata to the best of our knowledge with reference to MOM’s Record of FDW’s Employment History, WE HAD NEVER WORKED WITH any of the maids before and we would never know their true character, etc with just one or few interviews and thus we cannot guarantee her as a “Good maid” etc..
In view of her very bad employment history of changing many maids until she had had no maid for one year, we also CAUTIONED Lily Peh that for the employer-maid relationship to work out, it takes two hands to clap such that both EMPLOYER and MAID MUST BE GOOD. This was because based on our 12 years experiences, when an employer keeps changing maids until not having a maid for a long period of time, the employer herself surely must have had failed in some areas in managing maids.
Lily Peh told us she required the maid selected to share room & sleep with her two young children and is willing to handle the big dog. We asked Lily Peh for her detailed household conditions and job requirements including sleeping conditions; so that we can convey to the selected maid in both English & Myanmar language for the maid’s information and decision making.
Accordingly, Lily Peh made her well-informed choice and selected the first Myanmar maid, Hnin, who had had extensive experience with 7 young boys and girls in Singapore whose ages range from 2 to 12. Hnin had also had experience in handling a big dog. We spoke to Hnin about the job offer & requirements in both English & Myanmar language and Hnin had happily accepted the job.
Hnin commenced duties with Lily Peh on 7 Nov 2015. Thereafter, Hnin viber us in the nights that she had enjoyed taking care of the two young children with whom she had shared a room, sleeping with them and even played games with them together.
Two weeks later on her very First Off Day on Sunday ,22 Nov 2015 at 11.am , Hnin came to our agency office, without prior notice, to thank us for finding her a job with only ONE-MONTH’s Loan deduction. She presented us with a potted Christmas plant and a box of Ferrero Rocher and requested to have a photo taken with her in the presence of other maids who visited us that day and told us that she would complete her 2-year contract. This has proven the dishonesty of Lily Peh who has accused that the maid is not aware of having to share room with young children. Then the true problems and failures on the part of Lily Peh herself gradually revealed. She started messaging us complaining of very minor issues with Hnin. In our 12 years dealing with thousands of employers and maids, mature & understanding employers would understand that minor issues would definitely arise when two stranger-employer & stranger-maid are living together and both parties needs at least two months to adapt and adjust (while MOM’s guideline is for 3 months) .We responded immediately by speaking with Hnin conveying Lily Peh’s minor issues after she had completed her work in the night. We listened to Hnin, the other side of the story; the scolding-over-minor-issues and unreasonable behaviour displayed by Lily Peh. We honestly conveyed to Lily Peh about the feedback we received objectively.
Understandably, the relationship turned soured between employer & maid. In our 12 years dealing with many employers and maids, this is normal. Hnin told us that “Sir is nice”. In order not to give him problem and put him in a difficult position , Hnin asked for transfer and even wanted to get out of the house soonest possible, bear with financial losses after “Loan deductions” and having paid for air-ticket from Yangon to Singapore. Like employers who change maids and have to pay costs and unsure of whether the next maid is good or bad, many maids likewise are reluctant to ask for transfer as it means not only having to pay ‘Transfer fee” no matter how small, but to face uncertainties as to whether the next employer is a good employer or bad one again.
In the end, Hnin decided to go back to Myanmar as soon as the employer has secured a replacement maids she could NO LONGER TAKE THE UNRESOANABLENESS of Lily Peh anymore. Lily Peh came to our office on 9 Jan 2016 (Saturday) to select biodata again and she confirmed employing the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] maid Thidar Nyunt. In our office and in the presence of her husband Mr Chua and witnessed by another Myanmar maid HayPy , Lily Peh cried feeling guilty for her wrongdoings towards Hnin resulting in Hnin having to go back to Myanmar suffering income losses.
Thidar Nyunt commenced duties on 24 Jan 2016 with all job conditions and requirements clearly told as in the case of Hnin. However, problems cropped up again soon after, 10 Feb 2016, Lily Peh started messaging to us from morning till night non-stop about unhappiness over very minor issues with Thidar, which, other employers would have never raised but to recognise them to be calm and open-minded during initial adaptation and adjustment period for both employer and maid. Thidar Nyunt complained to us of the very unreasonable scolding by “Mdm” , almost every day until Thidar could no longer take it any further but to ask for transfer.
On the accusation of Thidar who had “allowed my two kids to play downstairs at the carpark alone while she stayed a home”. Lily was then working in the office and did not witness what had actually happened. The facts given by Thidar was that she was then cooking in the kitchen for dinner and the big dog was playing with a ball which had bounced out from the window and dropped into the carpark . The two children immediately wanted to rush out of the house to pick the ball but was stopped by Thidar who told the children to call “Mdm” for permission first so that she would then take them down to the carpark. After calling their mother, Lily Peh, the two naughty children opened the door on their own and dashed out of the house together with the big dog within seconds such that Thidar was not able to stop them in time. By the time Thidar stopped the cooking-in-progress in the kitchen and was about to go after the children , Lily Peh’s husband Mr Chua had arrived at the door step with the children and the dog.

Both maids, Hnin & Thidar had complained to us that Lily Peh herself had always been unable to control the two active children but she had unreasonably expected the maid who is not the mother of the children to do miracle!
To be honest, we are most reluctant to expose Lily Peh but are forced to do so after being urged by other supportive and understanding employers, who know how difficult it can be for a maid agency to have to listen to both sides and strike balance, without fear and favour. It has become a trend known by the Singapore Government & foreign Governments that maid employers are using internet forums to dishonestly & maliciously attack maids and agents while withholding facts on their wrongdoings. . With this, we take our stand.
We hereby reveal how dishonest, malicious & wicked Lily Peh is :

  1. On the one hand, Lily Peh signed a MOM required “Employer’s Consent Form” to facilitate Thidar Nyunt’s transfer as required by the legally-binding Service Agreement Lily Peh had signed with our agency. But on the other hand Lily Peh immediately logged into this forum to tell the whole Singapore not to hire Thidar by revealing Thidar Nyunt’s full name and full work permit number! We advised Thidar not to get a transfer but to go back to Myanmar.

  2. On the day of Thidar’s leaving Singapore, Lily’s husband Mr Chua had already arranged to send Thidar to Changi airport but was stopped by Lily Peh who required Thidar to take a taxi by herself to the airport and to pay for her own taxi fare which is the responsibility of the employer. She had felt guilty previously for having caused the previous Myanmar maid Hnin to leave Singapore and yet she was again repeating her wrongs to Thidar. We could had and we were definitely in a position to have , intercepted Thidar’s leaving the airport as we had done in the past years, with the urgent email to MOM seeking immediate interception demanding Lily Peh to rush to the airport to pay for Thidar’s taxi fare. Things could have been made difficult and ugly for Lily Peh if the maid refused to board the plane and had to be sent to MOM Boarding House in Keramat Road pending settlement of employment issue and repurchase of another air-ticket to Yangon But we had decided to let the already distraught Thidar leave with a peaceful mind first and seek justice when she is back in Singapore subsequently; and
Thidar Nyunt is back to Singapore working for a new family. Lily Peh has revealed in full Thidar’s name and work permit number. Thidar has the rights to reveal in full Lily Peh’s full name and other full details accordingly through the internet by all means to get back her justice so that dishonest, malicious & wicked employer would not run away with the idea that she could hide and attack behind the scene without being exposed . The first Myanmar maid Hnin would do likewise.
Now we see clearly why Lily Peh had failed to retain her maids, changed many maids until she had not had any maid for one year.
Three years ago, one MOE teacher hired an Indonesian maid from my agency and illegally deployed the maid to work in her sister’s condominium. The maid was taken to MOM to lodge a complaint of the infringement. The revengeful employer went into Kiasu Parent Forum to urge the whole world not to employ the maid concerned and other maids from my agency dishonestly accusing my agency for providing “bad services” without telling the truth that she had been investigated by MOM for her infringement of the laws. Having been alerted by supportive employers and with MOM’s knowledge, I responded in length the details of the illegal deployment with the employer’s name (in short only) with warning that the maid would open up everything through the internet including full name and address of the employer etc and legal actions to be taken . The civil-servant employer immediately went to seek psychiatric treatment, complaining of mental-break down due to the fear of investigations and further exposure of her infringements and possible losing of job. This employer BEGGED me to immediately delete my response to spare her as she was the sole-bread-winner of the family and she “could not take it any further”.
Almost each and every maid agency in Singapore including my agency get malicious defamation and back-stabbing by many dishonest employers who are themselves in the wrongs in one way or another in managing their maids. We are driven to the corner to response and expose.
To get things straight and to prevent further back-stabbing , our agency is ready for legal actions again in this case to reveal other facts and details and settle the matter in accordance with the legally—binding Service Agreement signed.
