Greendot review

From just two humble school canteen stalls operating out of Temasek Polytechnic and Chung Cheng High School (Main), Greendot has over the years morphed into a sizeable F&B enterprise best known for serving up affordable vegetarian fare; despite presently overseeing more than 10 restaurants scattered across various shopping malls, it continues to expand at a blistering pace through franchising arrangements.

Greendot's unflinching approach towards food ("Eat Green, Feel Good") appears seemingly straightforward, yet in reality exacts tedious research and choreography. Its meat-free menu which is premised on 'homely' culinary techniques revolves significantly around premium soy ingredients, assorted greens, medicinal mushrooms and zero-calorie Konnyaku jelly. Nourish while at the same time scintillate? That's quite a tall order. Sufficiently curious about whether them folks were indeed capable of devising nutritious, legitimately scrumptious vegan meals, we therefore decided to swing by their Bedok Mall outlet unannounced for a proper review of affairs.

What knocked our socks off:

The prettily arrayed Signature Lion Mane Mushroom Rendang With Turmeric Rice was a dead ringer for the classic nasi biryani dish: comfortingly thick curry sauce slathered over stringy, chewy mushrooms (these could have easily passed off as mock chicken) paired perfectly with fragrant immune-boosting yellow grains, crispy papadum and suitably pickled vegetable sticks - not entirely healthy scran, but still considerably less sinful than the real deal.
