Help on breastfeeding

Hi, my baby is turning 4 weeks. Initially when I bf him directly, I felt pain. Thus, I rested for awhile, expressed milk and top up with formula. I tried latching him on and off but mostly we fed him with formula as the supply of my breast milk is only 30-40ml each time I pump. Now, he drinks about 120ml formula per feed. As such, the whole day of my pumping can only match his one time feed. If I bf him directly each time, does it mean I have to top up formula after every breastfeed? I let him drink formula as I find it troublesome if I bf directly, expressed remaining and prepare formula each time per feed. Thus, I pump several times to reach 120ml, hardly bf him directly. Any advise on how I can better manage as I read that direct bf is better.

Thanks.
