To jab or not to jab?

Hi all,

Need some advise here. I'm a very anti-jab person.. but since now got lots of different optional jabs that benefits our kids why not right? But i don't know why i always have this "worry" feeling when my kids has to take jabs. My eldest daughter will be taking pneumococcal vaccine (optional) this coming April, MMR jab (compulsory) coming June.. and will be making a new appt. for her chicken pox vaccine (optional) soon.

Is it okay for them as in no side effect/after effect to take different optional jabs at this age 1-2 years old??

Anyone here bring their kids for alot jabs too?

Dun worry, your kids will be fine taking those jabs. We as parents just want a peace of minds.. :)

For myself, I didn't let DD take anything else except the chicken pox vaccine but for DS, he started the rotavirus already. Will continue the pneumococcal vaccine after 1yr old coz pd said he's not going for infant care so it's ok.

i'm a very anti vacc person. if u read into medical journals and research on vaccs, u will definitely NOT want to jab ur kids.

You are talking about the autism-related side effects?
Well, even when you've covered ALL the medical journals ... you'd only come to the conclusion that there are 2 schools amongst the medical experts themselves: some say it's ok & some say it's not.

So who do we & should we believe?

Actually, I've known of parents who defer talking ALL the compulsory vaccinations until just before they register the child for primary school ... I've also known of parents who send their kiddos to Japanese specialists @ Paragon to take those jabs, just so the risks are very much reduced. Effective or not ... I have no comments.

As for my boys, I follow the schedule for compulsory vaccinations closely, while starting the series of pneumococcal jabs before they turn 6 months old ... I also make them take the chickenpox & hepatitis A jabs ... but dropped rotavirus & influenza, simply becoz I dun believe in them.

I think it's quite unfair for you to make such condemnations.
If you are familiar with life sciences, then you'd probably know that micro-organisms adapt & mutate in the name of survivability ... so, it's a cat-&-mouse game all along.
In the spirit of conquering the unknown, there is no luxury of time & space to verify that every action is really necessary & correct ... most of the time, the action is taken with a bearable margin of error, with emphasis on it being not life-threatening. That's medicine.

Along those lines, let's just ask yourself this ... if it's announced today that they've found a trial vaccination for SARS or AIDS with 100% no side-effect but would similarly leave a scar like BCG, would you decline taking it?
Dun forget that in the older days (ie, say 50 years ago), tubercolosis was as rampant as SARS or AIDS.

I don't really like to give alot of jab for my son but I felt that the pneumococcal is neccessary. It is better to be safe than sorry. I brought him for the rotavirus and pneumococcal once he is eligible. At least if he is not feeling well, I got something lesser to worry. Maybe is the effect of the advertisement. I know it may not be 100% but at least i have tried to prevent it.

My colleague's sister boy got it 2 years back and it almost kill him. As for chicken pox, I dont think is necessary. Someone told me if both parent got their chicken pox late, most likely their baby will have it at about the same age.

My dd is 21months and she took the optional jabs like chicken pox, rotavirus and pneumococcal vaccines. No side effects.

Do you even know WHY Japan got no 5-in-1 or 6-in-1?
They would rather play safe than to err ... in the age-long debate within medical circles that vaccination can cause autism to a small number of children.

Most of the mummies here are anti-jab becoz they also fear that this medical theory may just turn out to be true.
Certainly not from a selfish perspective of losing their beauty sleep.

Sponge her regularly to ensure her temperature doesn't cross 38C ... did the doctors administer fever medicine for her?

her fever 39.1... last time her fever also 39.4.. the doc here dun give medicine for fever below 1yr old de.. last time also.. they just tell me, the temp dosent matter. wats impt is the bb's behaviour. as long as she behaves normally then its ok. the fever will subside eventually. ask me to just monitor..

she didnt get fever due to any injections before.. not too sure if its due to the jab this time round though its most likely due to it since it happens in the same day...

i realised she has been sick often after starting solid. she started solid at the beginning of this mth n its the 2nd time that she is having such high fever this mth too...

I also hate to use any medicine on the little ones unless absolutely necessary ... simply becoz you can see their stoned faces when on medication.
If medication is a non-option for you in Japan, I suggest you sponge her ... meaning every 1-2 hours, use a wet towel to wipe her so that the heat gets transferred out from her body onto your towel.
Of course, you can just sit & monitor ... but I'm the type who'd cannot dun take action on my own & end up hating myself if something goes wrong.

I dunno if this can be conclusive evidence ...
However, if the fever last more than 48 hours, then it is not due to the jab ... that's when you beter let the doctors take a look at her again.
Wakarimasu ka?

Hmmm ... if you are so convinced, then I suggest you examine what are the solids you have fed her ... either there is contamination in the food or she has a certain allergy which you dun know of.
