Just sharing with mummies-to-be...

I was overdue by 2 days, had wanted to wait on, was dilated only 2.5cm, some spotting, no contractions, tummy feels lower, heavier.
Doc advised induction... to lower risks since waterbag seems to have v limited space for baby already and baby has been engaged for weeks.

On EDD, decided to do contraction monitoring first, still reluctant to induce.
Went to doc @ Mt A with hospital bag, clinic assts brought us to delivery area to monitor one hr, very few contractions... paid $, went home.
Next day, went again. No contractions at all. Paid $, went home.
3rd time, decided to induce. Informed doc. Arranged next day delivery.

Light breakfast.
Hubby register, I was ushered into delivery room early morning at 8 am. Other mummies who came later, had to wait for delivery rooms. It was a popular month.
Was changed into hospi gown. Given some medication to pass motion. Nervous.
After passing motion, put on drip. Doc came. Cheerful greetings. Something injected in drip to induce labour.
After an hour, first contraction. Ok, not very painful. Like light cramps.
Practised breathing.
Hubby bought coffee to perk himself.

After half an hour, contractions came closer... every 10 mins.
Pain intensity increased.
Watched TV... some country rioting... forgot which one.

Contraction every 5 mins.
Then every 3 mins.

Checked dilation... 3.5cm only?!

Every min.

The clock looked like it was stuck at 11 am. Why so long???
At every min's contractions, I was not breathing correctly. Hubby showed support but I was grabbing gas mask desparately.
Finally an hour passed.
I was perspiring.
Feel like sleeping. Gas made me sleepy. Gas made hubby sleepy.
Hubby went to get more coffee.

12pm. Asked for injection - pain killer. Want to die.
Injected butt.
Painkiller lasted only 30 mins.
Mom and sis bought lunch for hubby, otherwise, he would have been extremely hungry.

1pm. Asked for another dose. Midwife said no. Cannot administer so closely.
Clutched onto gas mask for dear life, in and out of drowsy state.
Hubby got bored and started plucking my white hair.
Want to kill him.

An hour later, checked dilation... I was in a daze, almost banging head onto hospital bed handrest.
Hubby told me 6cm.
Was bleeding. Continously.
Midwife said to me,"Don't push. You are pushing. Your cervix is swollen. You will delay the dilation like that."
I wasn't pushing but the contractions were painful, I couldn't control my body reaction.

Hubby said I may need to endure another 9 hours before fully dilated.
Hubby went for smoke.
At this point, I shouted to the midwife. Epidural, please.
They confirmed with me again. I said, yes yes yes.
Signed a document. Didnt even read it. I was too much in pain.
Anaesthetist came and plugged in epidural via spine.
$400.

IMMEDIATE RELIEF.

Dilation sped up. Very fast. 8cm, 9cm... doc came.
Practised pushing with midwives guiding. Difficult to push cos waist down no feeling.
Midwives used machine to monitor contractions since I have no feeling aft epidural.

Doc came, time to push, pushed like mad. Mad is an understatement.
Final push, doc makes a cut there to let baby come through.
Skin to skin contact, first touch, but I ruined it. I took a split second glance at baby crying on my chest and then I puked at a midwife.
Nausea... the side effect of epidural...
Warm water given.

Time of birth noted.

Midwives cleaned baby. Doc gave cheery praises, stitched me up.
Hubby attended to baby.
Baby is being measured, weight, length, head.

Midwives cleaned me up and transferred me to a stretcher bed to move to ward. I passed out.
When I woke up in ward, was cleaned up nicely and changed to a new hospi gown.
But normal wards were full, I ended up in observation ward till someone checks out.

Shortly later, baby was brought to me for breastfeeding.

Hi Selp, thanks for sharing and congrats on your new born :) just wondering based on your experience will you highly recommend epidural to be used?
