KK Hospital Admission Concern

Hi Mummies,

My 3 months old baby girl is going to be admitted to KK hospital next week due to Capillary Hemangioma on her left eye. I would like to know more about your experience when you admit your child to KK hospital. How was it? Is it true that the service depends on what type of ward you choose?

She is going to stay there for approx 1 week or more.

Any advices or precaution to take note?

Hope you will be able to share your experiences.... TIA

My girl was warded at kkh for a week in dec 2012 when she was only 16 days old. We transferred there from a private hospital so we were subjected to the private rates, so I can only comment on the service for wards A1and B1. I can say that the nurses there are pretty friendly and helpful, though sometimes they might be short handed and there were a few occasions they forgot to take the milk out from the Warmer for my baby. For single rm, they encourage one parent to stay over to look after baby, though the nurses will come over on time for the medication. If you are staying in A1, they will introduce the nurse taking over the next shift personally, and the names of the nurses are put up both outside and in the room. There wasn't such service for the B1 wards though. Doctors wise they do their rounds regularly and u can request to see them if you need.
If u were to ask me, I would say the nurses at private hospitals are more attentive, but of coz they have lesser patients to deal with, which could be one of the reasons. Kkh nurses need to handle more patients but their skills are not inferior to those in private hospitals. The nursing students are also very helpful and they only can administer medication etc in the presence of a staff nurse.
You can bring your own diapers, nappy rash cream, formula milk etc. for me I bf, so I hand them my ebm and get them to prepare for me when it's feeding time. They have sterilizer at the pantry and I use it when I finish pumping. Ask them for the bf sign to hang up when u are pumping milk or bf baby. Whatever concerns u have, let them know and they will try to help u. =)
Hope this helps to ease your mind a little.

My son is warded at kkh on 3 years ago. I heard from my friend must choose A ward or deluxe A ward so the service also A class. So i let my son stay at deluxe A ward for 4 days. But luckily all cover by insurance. So u better check your child plan for medishield. If can cover all, why not stay at A ward

Oh oh.. thank you Mummies..

i guess the only way to get better service is to stay in A ward in KK if there is insurance coverage

Is B1 ward and below really that bad?

Do you have any idea how is B2 or C ward? Does it rarely any attention given by the nurses?

My daughter was admitted to kkh few wks ago due to fever as she's less than 3 months old. Initially we went for b2 ward as we weren't sure what's her condition like. The nurses are nice and helpful but I didn't like the env as the other kids in the ward are toddlers and were screaming and crying with many visitors for one particular patient and they were talking and eating loudly in the ward tt my daughter kept getting scare from her slp..hence we opted for a1 next morning. Nurses are equally helpful but amenities wise more complete and parent have a sofa bed to slp and private toilet to use. Most importantly, my daughter could slp and rest better in tt ward

My daughter was admitted twice and I chose to stay ward A without hesitation. KKH in my opinion still operates like a structured hospital. Only at A ward, the doctors are at least head of department or specialist on rotation shift. There are lesser student nurses doctors whom have no idea how children behaves and suffering. Always make sure you buy insurance shield for at least A WARD so you have lesser needs to repeat visiting the hospitals again.

KKH sadly has the best facilities but insufficient good doctors. The latter all went private.

Now, I have chosen to go to private ones as I have seen how my daughter suffered earlier years where I insisted to go KKH. There were only rare 1 or 2 occasions I met good doctors to help her.
