LNT OR Shichida

Uddermummy, what you said totally makes sense. I also dont't support centres that claim to educate children when they are actually in for the money. Especially nowadays when there are many copycat centres which simply try to replicate what the original Shichida centres try to do.

I am also a careful parent and looked around, assessed Shichida, read parents' testimonials and searched for feedback from parents with children in Shichida for some time before deciding on it. Many Shichida children have excelled in different areas such as music and sports, not just academic. This all-rounded development is what I'm looking to instil in my child(ren).

Of course, it would be great if someone could do a scientific research on Shichida children to prove its method. However i can't let my boy wait for the research results. In the meantime, going to class as a pair is fun and I get ideas to teach him at home. Time would tell if the classes and home practices are effective for him. Therefore, I'd be reviewing our updates on my website, to help other parents decide if it is worth the time and money. Hmm... Like a 'research' done on my own boy? Ha...
thks alot for this comment! indeed is helpful... i too wld like to make a well informed decision and not jus do wat others r doing n follow blindly...

am interested in the shicida program, can u pls pm me with more details?

Hi all, sorry ah sidetrack a bit, since we touch on early learning, recently i went to the Motherhood fair and chanced upon World Book. Seems quite interesting as the methods and language used are very powerful. But the price also powerful . So just want to ask if any mummys here have invested in the books and can share your experience with me?

Wow. My girl is 19+mths and the only place I send her to is Gymboree playgroup once a week. I prefer to let her enjoy her childhood rather than starting her on all these learning courses. She seems to be developing just fine though. She's able to speak in sentences now. Think it's normal for her age. Most of the time I understand what she's saying, although she still speaks baby from time to time. She speaks mostly in English, a splattering of Malay and a few words in Danish (courtesy of my hubby). She knows numbers and can roughly count to 6 in English & 4 in Danish. She knows a lot of her body parts and can name them. So I'm not the least worried about her missing out on all these programmes. She's learning from living life and in the process, enjoying her childhood. I will consider sending her to a drop off playgroup once she's 2yrs old. Just to build up her independence.

Im not in the early childhood industry so I can't say much abt what research backs which progs, but I think most parents are not aware (or refuse to believe) that free playing is learning for the child. And children learn the best when play is incorporated into programs.

Hubby n I expose my 2 yr old to many things ourselves, let her explore her surroundings safely n seldom use the word no unless it's really necessary. My 2 yr old girl can properly count to 30, quantify to 10 n according to her teachers in playgroup, speak both Malay n English well. I don't think that she's gifted cos I've read some mommies' posts here abt their toddlers counting to 100 or knows 1000 vocabs, something like that. But I believe she is bright, like ALL other children. She did not attend any playgroups till early this year. We relented only because we want her to gain some independence n socialise without having mommy at her beck n call every minute.

Majority of parents work fulltime so they send their kids for enrichments maybe to pass their time n socialize n at the same time learn as much as possible. Totally nothing wrong with that.

But u will still need to play with your child most of the time because children learn best through play and parents are the best teachers to the child. I think a child benefits the best when he is given an equal amt of parent child bonding time as well as enrichment classes.

Hi , sorry just saw your discussion on these.. My elder daughter went to shicida since 13 mths and i find that it is very usefull. Now she is 2 and half years old and i think being in that class makes her sits still better in any other class as they are required to sit down for class. My second daughter is going next term too at 10 mths old.. To be honest i think 2 mths old is too young but i have friends who sent their girls at 6 mths too... Its really your own decisions..cheers!!

It is always good to start early when comes to learning. You may want to start by exposing your kid to FLASH CARDS. You can also make your own flash cards and remember to use only BIG writing and no picture. I started using the flash cards to my girl when she was 1. Good results shown when she started her primary school. Fast learner, creative and keen on learning.
