My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past 2 years plus. But we have not been successful. We have not visited any gynae or doctor as of yet. But now we feel that we need to do something in order us to conceive. Can anybody help as to how should we go about? Do we go directly to a hospital or do we need to seek advise from private doctors or do we go to polyclinics for review of our condition/situation.

Hi.. I have a fren who is also trying. They even went for something like IVF thingy. IVF is much more expensive. Just to let u know of the cost. The one they took is one step before IVF. Which cost abt $3k. So my advise is if u have other means try it. Like massage or maybe stop bad habits, ( drinking might affect conceiving) or maybe others have traditional of help. If all that doesnt work.. then u may want to consider hospital (IVF).

Hi CutieLya, thank you for the advise We have tried the traditional massage and went to different masseuse as well. All of them said that everything is fine. Some of my friends were telling me there are now pills that will help with the hormonal that would assist to increase the chance of getting pregnant, but I'm sceptical when it comes to such things, as I won't know how the body will accept the medicine.
Maybe I will visit a gyna from a hospital for further check up before I decide if IVF I really the answer. But for some reason, it is scary to know the truth as to where the fault is.

My hubs and I went to a gynae directly and basically, there are a few fertility tests he/she will put you through. I did 2 ultrasounds and am due for 2 blood tests and 1 HSG test. Hubs only need to do Sperm Analysis test. I reckon everything will cost about $1K+.

I'm not sure if you can go to polyclinic first. I think if you are a referred patient from polyclinic, it might be cheaper? Perhaps you can call polyclinic to check first. Good luck! :)

Oh ya, the gynae advised us that to be considered "actively trying" we should be having sexual intercourse like 3-4 times a week, best is every alternate day so that the sperm can "regenerate" and be healthy. Obviously we are unable to do that because of work stress etc, so this may be a factor why we are unable to conceive.

You should go to hospitals.

I understand what you mean, ristymisty. with both working, there have been little opportunity to be 'actively trying'. But we should give it a shot if there is chances of being lucky in the event. :)

May be I will try going to the hospital to see a gynae and ask them what is the suitable next step that we should take.

If you don't get a checkup you will never know if it's something you can easily treat and you will have wasted a lot of time. Go to KK specialist or to any gynae for a checkup if you can't wait. Before I even started trying I alr went for a quick checkup at my gynae. Can't waste time when we are all getting older.

Found out that I have PCOS and went on clomid to help ovulation. In the end Thomson Medical TCM worked to help me conceive after 1.5 years of trying on western meds. Either western or Chinese can work for you but you have to find out if there is something that can be treated first. First step is NOT IVF, first step is clomid/duphaston, then maybe IUI, then maybe IVF depending on your situation. You may have to do tests like ultrasound to see womb, HSG x ray to check your tubes, husband will do semen test.

What for be afraid of finding out what the problem is? Isn't it better to find out the problem and solve it than to live without knowing when the solution may be easily found? It is no one's "fault" if it is a medical issue. Shouldn't blame either husband or wife. Just figure out what can be done and do it. After all end goal is to have a baby so work towards that goal.

Hi Jadeite,

How did you kw u have PCOS? Thru ultra sound scan or through blood test? I also have PCOS but determine thru ultra sound scan. I also did blood test ( on the 12th day after menses) on the same day as ultra sound scan but my gynae said that is not the significant of PCOS.. .Is it true that I shd get my hormones blood test tested on the 2nd or 3rd day of menses to see my PCOS profile??
