Hi,
We are moving to Singapore next month. We suspect that our son (2 years old) has autism. He has yet to be assessed and diagnosed. He has most of the symptoms such as does not response to his name, does not point, etc.

I just want to know your recommendation which organization offers best EIPIC for austim. I saw several organizations often mentioned in this website: AAS, ARC, Rainbow, AWWA. Btw, we have Singapore PR.

From my search, AAS has 2 centres in Clementi and Simei, whereas ARC is in Ang Mo Kio, Rainbow centres are in Yishun and Margaret Drive.

We plan to look for a place to stay near the location of EIPIC centre.

Many thanks in advance for your input.

Hi,

AAS and ARC specializes in children with autism. But they have a long waiting list. Queues can be shorter depending on functioning level of child. There are also good private special schools in sg. For the government EIPIC, it is only 6 hours per week.

Hi Cobbie,
Thank you so much for your reply. Greatly appreciate your kind input on this. I am like a headless chicken trying to get as much info about ASD particularly in Singapore.

In term of therapy treatment, is there any difference between AAS or ARC? I called some organizations in HK, some therapy such as ABA requires minimum 20 hours. From your experience, is 6 hours per week sufficient for mild ASD? For private special schools, may I know some of the school names and their fees?

Regarding with the assessment for ASD, did your child go through private or public? How long is waiting time for assessment in government hospitals? If waiting time is too long in government hospitals, can I use the assessment from private clinics to get treatment in AAS or ARC?

Sorry that I ask so many questions. Hope any other mommies with ASD's child could share your experience. I am really grateful for your help.

Hi,

I tried ARC for a while but I find that the therapy focuses more on OT skills, independence life skills etc, not so much on academic like reading and writing. I am not sure about AAS, maybe other mummies can help.
My son also mild ASD has home based ABA. Yes, the recommended min hrs is 20 but it is very costly in sg ie min 50 per hr and there is no govt subsidy. So I make up the rest of hours by my own therapy.

As for the private special school, there are wee care ( super ex ), genesis, kits for kids, st Gerard's. You can google on the net.
The fees vary but min 1k for about 3 hrs daily.

For enrollment into AAS or ARC, you need to be referred bycEL ( center of enabled living ). I think the q at kkh is about 6 months. A private doctor should be fine too. You can email CEL to check.Hope I helped.

Hi Joyful Mum,

I was looking for resources for children with special learning needs in this forum and saw your posting. Not sure if you have found a centre for your boy. Came across a private centre, Kidspace Learning Place (think they are located somewhere in upper bukit timah) which offers early intervention and school prep programmes. According to info on their website, they incorporate speech and OT in their programmes depending on the needs of the child. Best thing is they do not require your child to have a formal medical diagnosis to enrol. You might want to check them out.

AAS is better. My son is from AAS. U can directly go to the school for register. Sometimes waiting time is long because of the hospital social worker never do it fast.

Janeloh: who do you recommend for speech therapy at the Child Development CEnter? Was trying to call to book an appointment but it seems this place is quite popular. I thought can get a slot next week.

Hello,

We are a group from the Social and Affective Neuroscience (SAN) Lab, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). We are conducting a research to investigate how genes might interact with certain environmental factors, and how that may contribute to improving the relationship quality between mothers and their child with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

We are recruiting mothers aged 21 and above who have children with a diagnosis of ASD aged between 3 to 7 to participate in our paid study.

Our study consists of 2 portions - an online questionnaire and the collection of saliva samples from both mother and child either at home, at your child's center or at our lab.

If you are interested in participating in the study or have any queries regarding our study, you can contact us via the email or phone number provided below.

Thank you very much for your time.

Hello,

We are a group from the Social and Affective Neuroscience (SAN) Lab, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). We are conducting a research to investigate the core behavioural and physiological events in mother-infant attachment. Specifically, we are looking at how does the mother-child attachment influence infant's self-regulation during a mild social challenge/

We are recruiting mothers aged 21 and above who have children aged between 5-8 months to participate in our paid study.

In our study, you, your child and a research assistant will engage in a series of social interaction for 12 minutes. This interaction will be video-recorded and your baby will be wearing a non-invasive ECG device.

If you are interested in participating in the study or have any queries regarding our study, you can contact us via the email or phone number provided below.

Thank you very much for your time.

Dear mummies,

Big news from the U.S. for those who would are struggling with understanding the behaviours of their children with special needs, and how to manage them, and teach their children.

The Autism Partnership Foundation, a U.S. based and world-leading service provider (they have an office here in Singapore) for individuals with ASD and related disorders has launched a FREE 40 hour training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) for anyone interested. ABA is the gold standard treatment approach for ASD and related disorders, with a strong evidence base for its effectiveness.

This 40 hour training covers the task list of a Registered Behaviour Technician, a professional certification in ABA issued by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB). This is the level of training that qualifies one to be a front line staff working with individuals with ASD and related disorders. You read that right. And it's free.
*Note that the 40 hour training is only one component to apply for certification.*

Note that you would need to register an account with the BACB beforehand as you will need to produce your BACB ID to sign up for the course. The account is free to register and takes less than 5 mins.

I am unable to post links as I'm a new member here. You can PM me for the links.

I hope that this is welcome news for some of you mummies out there. Cheers!

Looking for a professional to support your child who has special needs?????

In Singapore, children who diagnosed with different disorders has been increased significantly recently. Most of the parents will send their child who has special needs to Early Intervention Centre (EIPIC) after received the diagnosis from the psychologist.

Other than sending your child with special needs to attend EIPIC, you can consider for 1-1 home based early intervention as the Educational Therapist/Early Interventionist will work closely with you and support your child's learning and development during their early years (the most crucial years). The Educational Therapist not only provide support to you and your child in a home based setting, and will support in school as well as public settings too.

Kindly click into this link and get more information on this Home-based Intervention for Children with Special needs.
