Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon

Hi Jenny, so have you gone to the small claim court?

Recently I also went to Shakura after hearing the ad over the radio. After 1 session of treatment, I developed rashes all over my face. And the sad thing is I have already signed a package with them. I went to a doctor and she said its definitely an allergy reaction. I was given 2 days MC and she was so kind to write me a letter stating my conditions. I tried to ask for a refund and the manager took my picture and said will try to help me submit to office.
I'm going to see them tomorrow for the reply. Hopefully, I can get my money!

If can't I think I will go to small claim court too!
Dear Mag

Any updates with your claim? I also want to claim. Thanks

I did ask for refund but they are only willing to give 50% refund. I'm thinking of going to small claims tribunal but I want Jenny to tell us if she was successful

No use going to Small Claims Tribunal In Singapore.
The judge dismissed my claim by telling me Harassment is a valid sales tactic for beauty saloons in Singapore.
Once you signed a contract, you are bound by it, no matter how harsh the terms and conditions are, even if you have to pay extra to terminate the contract.
Unless you can prove you are illiterate or have a doctor to certify you cannot take their treatment.
With such laws, is it any wonder why beauty saloons like Shakura will continue such sales tactics?

Have been there at Tampines walk in before. The sales persons have been very pushy and as the judge said, "harassment is a valid sales for beauty saloons in Singapore". Fine. After one try, you never know how your skin will react to it, they start to sell you 30 sessions in advance. What happens if your skin starts to rot after this free session and I have to go through the next 30?? To be frank, if your product is good it will sell by itself, you don't have to advertise. No need to be pushy about it. People will come back for more. It is as if you are hard up on cash or having cash flow problems with your setup.. It only gives people the impression that you have no confidence in your products and hopefully don't turn out to be one of those SPA companies that have to close down after taking everyone's money.

Hi Jenny1964, I had the same problem with facial skin itch after using their products/treatement at Shakura Jcube outlet. Did you manage to get your full refund? I saw a doctor twice o n my facial skin allergy after using Shakura products. I am seeing them next week to resolve this issue and a solution on refund.

Though the title of this thread is for PlazaSing, I must clarify that I didn't got to the Plaza Sing branch.

I went for the free trial and face and neck felt itchy and redness. Luckily I have protopic ointment left over from my daughter's eczema treatment, I applied and it saved my face and neck. Of course I wouldn't dare to go back again and am so glad that I didn't give in to the pressure by the Branch Manager to sign up for the 3 treatment special offer package.

BTW, my friend's husband has been going to the Harborfront branch since early this year, spent at least 30K there, but his pigementations are still there. According to my friend, her husband said he felt the pressure to keep signing up and bought stuff, not just there creams/serums/lotions,but also beauty drinks ! Interestingly, he even ordered bouquet of flowers for the beautician there on her birthday! I am really curious how many men went for treatments there, and what kind of services they received that they are obliged to order flowers for the beautician?

Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon

Hi all,

I have been reading up on Shakura for a good half year. I am currently intending to pursue civil suit against them. As mentioned by other users, I have also tried CASE and Small Claims but they don't really handle such cases. I wish to share my story and hope my journey against Shakura may help others here who are affected. It is my personal story and I have pictures and recordings as evidences.

I started with a Groupon or Deal.com.sg trial early April 2014 (been some time and I can't remember the price). I have tried other beauty solutions for pigmentation like soft laser, IPL, E-light etc from various beauty salons but I don't see improvement. So I decided to try Shakura. Paid $1300 for 10 sessions of milk peeling (I think that's what it's called). The specialist said it's the first stage (out of 3 stages) of their pigmentation programme. The next stage is healing followed by final stage of actual removal of pigmentation. Reason given was that spots needed to be soften and skin needed to be "healed" optimally before removal.

From 10 April 2014 to 3 August 2015, I did 4 sessions. On the 5th session on 13 August 2015, I complained that there's no improvement before my treatment started, so they suggested to upgrade my package to 10 sessions of "healing". Paid an additional $2140. On top of that they suggested to do a "skin test" to see if my skin was suitable to do the third stage "removal". To my understanding, a skin test does not involve invasive procedures or harmful side effects. The consultant also did not explain what the skin test is about (as in what are the procedures and machine/substances used). During the facial, my eyes were covered with cotton pads/tissue. The skin test process started with application of substance. After a while, I felt the therapist using some object to scrap the spot they decided to test on. It was painful but I did not stop them as I thought it was part of the necessary process just like IPL hurts too. After some scraping, the therapist put a soaked cotton pad over the "tested area" for some time. Then mask followed. After the facial, I was horrified to see myself in the mirror in the facial room! There was a "red mark" on the "tested area"! I confronted my consultant, she assured it will go away after a few days. So I waited a few days. It turned out bad. The "red mark" became a scab, resembling the hardened skin that forms after a scratch or cut and bleeding. I went to see my consultant. This time she said it'll go away after a week. I waited again. But I took pics of the scab everyday or every few days to document the changes. Horrified, the scab now became a crater on my face!!! It was so obvious the part that was "tested" became an ugly depression on my face and I was ashamed to go out! I went to the outlet to confront my consultant but she happened to be off work. Another specialist spoke to me and this time, she said it'll take a month or two for the skin to heal depending on individual. I taped our conversation. I know the recording will be of use someday. I was wary of them already.

By then it was Sept or Oct 2015 already and they have been feeding me with lies of my skin healing in time to come but yet will not give me an exact time when my wound will heal. Then after I told them I'm gonna pursue the matter with CASE and Small Claims, they offered me 10 free sessions of "healing" to aid the process of my skin returning to what it used to be. I did intensive sessions weekly. There wasn't any improvements. After 10 sessions and my skin still has the scar. They claimed the scar was no longer as bad as before. But I insisted they had obliged to restore my face. But they said there was nothing else they would do free for me anymore. They even had the cheek to ask me to continue my "healing" package so that my scar can improve! I was so mad! I told them there's no way I'm gonna use my own money to pay to repair the damage they have done to my face. It was absurd to the core!

I told them I wanted a refund. They burdened me with all the terms and conditions etc in the receipt I signed. $50 admin fee will be charged, plus a 20% deduction from my balance worth. I refused their terms. Spent a lot of time and wasted trips to the salon arguing with them. The final settlement with them in Dec 2015 was the full refund of my package but had to deduct the $50 admin fee. But they said in order to get the refund, I am to sign an agreement that frees them from all liabilities after the refund is given. I hesitated and dragged the issue til now as I have found a law firm that's willing to take my case and is confident of winning. All I needed was a certified doctor's diagnosis in black and white. I have been to polyclinic then specialist at govt hospital to review my face. I am very certain the dermatologist wrote "scar" in his diagnosis. But his diagnosis was brief. I am currently looking at having a second diagnosis.

Just to share, the scar is still on my face up til now. But through many months of proper face care (zero beauty salon facials), I'm glad it helped to make the scar less obvious. Nonetheless, it's still there and I'm still upset with Shakura. I hope my experience will shed some light on their facials.

Meanwhile if anyone has a reputable and not expensive dermatology specialist to reccommend for my second diagnosis, please do let me know.

Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon

I go to Dr Steven Ang at 75D Redhill Rd, Singapore 154075.
I was also trying to get a refund from Shakura but it's not worth it. I called CASE but they can't do anything about it coz of the agreement I have signed. I just hated the hard selling and lies. They kept making me buy stuff before they let me leave the place. Last thing I had to buy was the booster which they said is an anti-germ. To kill bacteria. When I got home and read the description on the box, it just says "hydration"

Hi guys. I really need advice. I'm 16, a guy and I've very deep acne marks before going to Shakura. My cousin recommended me Shakura and said it helped her skin problems. And so I went with my mum to the Jcube (Singapore) outlet. After the first free trial and skin analysis, the specialist recommended me to sign up for 20 sessions at $6000+. My mum was shocked and she said she can't afford to pay for that much. After much discussion, the specialist lowered the price to $3000+ but it was only for 10 sessions. My mum this deal. Halfway though the 10 sessions, the specialist strongly recommended me to sign up for another 20 sessions which is a different formula. At that time, it was around Mothers' Day 2016, however my mum decided to sign up for only 10 sessions, it cost $2000. My mum accepted and paid it. And that halfway through that, the "senior" or "head" recommended me to purchase 20 ampoules, which is the very small bottle and inside every packaging, there's only 5 of it. She said once you apply it, you would see drastic changes to my skin. My mum bought that it costs another $2000. In total, she paid around $8000, and the payment method was like a credit card and some money would be deducted every month.

However, all of these has no effect. And around my 14th session, my specialist left the company and was replaced by a more "pro" specialist. She said that she is like the manager. I would soon be approaching the 16th session and there are very little improvements in my skin. In fact, my skin got more pimples and acne because of this. My mum and dad plan to head down to the outlet to ask why is my face still in a bad condition. Can anyone of you suggest what should I do now? My dad says he wants to request for free treatment and only stopping to the point where my skin is better than my original skin. Do you think refunds would work? What should I do? I'm now so guilty as my mum paid a ton of money and has to continue paying for 3 years. Since I'm 16, I've calculated that even after I graduate from Poly, my mum still has to pay for this. My face is now really bad. I've took a picture of my face before I went to Shakura and did not take any subsequent photographs any more. My face before going to Shakura is definitely better than now. That's my only evidence. How can I get back my money?

Thanks for reading. Hope to hear comments regarding my issue...
