Should I go to Mount Alvernia or KK Hospital?

I had my 3rd child at Mt A and he lost slight weight upon discharge. I asked the doc and was told it's normal for some babies to experience this. Anyway, my baby looked perfectly happy with the milk offered, so I believe it's really a natural course for him. After he's home, his appetite picked up and has been gaining weight normally. So there, even at Mt A, this can happen too. I dont think losing weight is an exclusive incident to KK only.

That said, I delivered my very first child at Kandang Kerbau Hospital and had a pleasant experience. Guess I was lucky I had attentive nurses.
ya...is normal for babies to lose weight initially. no worries.

i delivered at TMC. but if u ask me to choose btwn Mt A and KK, i will choose Mt A.

i went to KK when i was 1st preg, i went to the subsidise dept but has to wait for many hrs and was v crowded. and was told that actu the price of going to KK TPS is consider as 'private'. I cant accept going to subsidise dept and wait for hrs and see diffe doctors everytime. and since the price at TPS is not much diffe compared with pte hospital, i chose to go pte. =)

Ya agree, i also can't stand long waiting hours. I still remember way before i was pregnant, i went to kk to do ultrasound scan...then u suppose to fill up your bladder with water for the scan...and at kk is really really a long wait...plus the aircon is really cold...i cannot tahan man...in the end i scold the doc who perform the scan for making me wait and wait...as the price i pay to see specialist is ex wor...but the scanning part is lousy system lor.

Hi,

Having read thru the thread, Seems like Mount A is the preferred choice for many many mummies. But what about Raffles Hospital?? I cannot seem to find any comments about Raffles. Any kind advise?

After reading thru...i can say tat i'm really lucky. Was in kk, nurses in the delivery suite r more professional den the trainee doctors(my doc haven't reach)...booked & paid for 4 beds room, but ended up free upgrade to single bed room & recieved very good services! ^_^
Hmmm...i had heard so much abt the yummy confinement food at TMC, how abt M-A? Might be planning for my next birth...hee! :-x

i had sought opinion from my niece (who is a doctor) 6 years ago and she recommended a few gynaes from Mount A and KK. Had opt for KK cos of the gynae i selected. My boy is now 6 years old and i had recently delivered my girl, also by the same gynae at KK. Had contemplated going to Mount A for the second one but ultimately opted for KK again cos of the gynae whom I'm very comfortable with. Also found out recently that my gynae is also the one used by a few of my colleagues, one for her two kids a couple years back and another who delivered early this year.

Wld say that most impt is the gynae as he/she will be helping you with the delivery and providing you required advice from prenatal till delivery. Having said that, KK's facilities is in fact quite good. My boss who's take is Mount E was so impressed when she visited me that she commented she will recommend her friends to KK next time. If money is not an issue, can opt for private suite where the waiting time for pre-natal check-up will be very much shorter and it's personalised service in terms of having your gynae follow-up on u when u go in to deliver right up till delivery. For normal packages, you will be 'seen' by a few gynae when u go in until your delivery which wld be by your own gynae. Also for normal package, can only opt for B and C accommodation. For private u will be placed in a single ward and one family member can stay overnight. My boy had jaundice then and had to stay in hospital for an additional day. I personally believe that KK is a better choice since they specialised in babies and woman gynae and had the best facilities needed for any unforeseeable event.

your husband is right that choice shld be yours to make as you must be comfortable with the place and more imptly the gynae. Some gynae are stationed only at certain hospital and might have clinics in various parts of Singapore. I think gynaes at Mount A and Thomson have clinics near neighbourhood areas. Those at KK usually don't so u will need to go down to KK for all your pre-natal check-ups.

oh i forgot to add. you can choose your own gynae KK. The more senior the gynae the higher will be the consultation fee for each check-up. If you don't choose, they will prob assign you, that when there is a likely probability of getting a trainee doctor. If you are interested, my gynae is Dr John Tee, senior consultant. U can also read up the profiles of the other gynae in the website.

Hi all,

I'm a first-time mum. I cant' make a choice of having my baby deliver in Mount Alvernia or KK hospital. Those who experienced with either one or both hospital, do leave your feedback for me. Thanks. :tsmile:
mount alvernia should be good but my experience with kk hospital was bad with bad mood nurses and black face doctors..during delivery. i yell a little in pain that was understandable but the rude senior nurses scolded me and tell me not to frighten the other patients that was so lame and rude....and they are very impatient throughout,...terrible
