Should You Pay Off Mortgage or Invest Instead?

If you were to come upon a financial windfall today — say, as part of a sizeable year-end bonus or strike toto, would you use that money to pay down your mortgage or use it to buy stocks (invest)?

depends on the rate of interest for both, and how good an investor I am. :p

If I'm paying a high rate of interest for the mortgage, and I'm not confident of getting higher returns on my investment, then I'll pay off the debt first.

If I'm confident of getting better returns, then I'll invest.

i would payoff my mortgage and any surplus from what i earn can go into investment. at least if my investment fails, i know at least i don't have to worry abt the roof over my head and what i earn can still tide me through comfortably.
