Uhm, embarassing question - skin tag on nipple

i have an embarassing question/situation:

I noticed that I developed skin tag on my left nipple. it's about 2mm in size, doesn't hurt but can be 'flipped' if i used my finger. It's like a small piece of loose skin growth. I tried pulling it once and a lil bit of blood came out (its like pulling a piece of skin) so I decided not to.

I'm not sure if I should ask my gynae on this since uhm, i'm not sure if he's the right person to ask? Or should I go see a lactation consultant (even tho i haven't delivered?)

I read online on a few US forums that it's quite common and some mom's snip/cut it off (but i'm not going to risk it). some say it goes away after you deliver and doesn't obstruct breastfeeding.

Question - anyone encounter this before? Would like to hear from you. Thanks

Hi miniclaire

thanks for yr reply. since u had it on yr chest, i guess it isn't much of an issue since it's not directly in the way of breastfeeding? I'm tempted to pull it or like some other forums said- tie a string around it and let it darken/drop off but just a lil worried about infection. So i thought best not to.

how are you getting them removed after yr delivery? do u visit a dermatologist?

Pull out a strand of hair and tie a knot around the skin tag, within a couple of days you should notice that it's color has changed and it will eventually drop out. You don't need to visit your OBGYN specifically for the skin tag, any GP will do. I had one on my underarm years ago and they fix an appointment for me to see the skin specialist, which was 3 months away. So in the end I just tied a string/hair around it and it eventually came off.

Hi

Mine tag is directly on d nipple. I had it even before I got pregant for many years, but didn't really bothered about it. When I got pregnant, it grew from 2-3mm to about 1cm.

Im not sure how to remove it at this stage now. Im currently 34 weeks. :(

Update:

Now that I've pop 11 months ago, I realised that my skin tag grew bigger! I thought it will shrink after breastfeeding, but it did not. So I went to the polyclinic and they arranged an appointment at KK Breast Cancer to be surgically removed. It will be a day surgery, but boy, it costs very expensive!

I was tempted to just tie a string on it, but it's quite large and even painful when I pinch. But anyway, the doctor at KKH say they will send the tag for tests after the removal, so check whether there should be any cause of concern since it's on the nipple.

Skin tags are usually normal and harmless unless maybe they're causing pain, then you can have them removed. I had some skin tags before but had them removed by a doctor (Colin Tham) but mostly because of aesthetic purposes.
