Hi there..

I was diagnosed with PCOS for several years and back then i brushed it aside as i was just 18YO and was single. I knew that it was a condition that attributed to my weight gain, horrible skin and excessive hair growth. Fast forward today, i have done a surgery to remove cyst from my ovary and the gynae did some procedure that was suppose to help PCOS patients ovulate ( I think it is puncturing holes in the ovary or something or that sorts).

I used to be on BCP to regulate my menses and i could only treat the symptoms of my PCOS (e.g. waxing for hair growth, diet and skincare for skin). Unfortunately exercise only got me 'fitter' but not so much weight loss. Apparently it is a double edged sword to be overweight and have PCOS because you need to lose weight to solve the PCOS or solve PCOS to lose weight.

My husband and I are considering options for fertility since we know of this condition. I have yet spoken to any gynae yet. I did not really liked the gynae who did my surgery so i dont think i will be going back to her. I was hoping to hear from people who have battled with PCOS and what sort of treatment are they seeking, successful or non successful stories. I dont know if i should seek TCM? or should i go to a gynae and be prescribed with medication/surgery to attempt to conceive. I know IVF would be a costly procedure and a long commitment too.

Thanks in advance

Hi ladies.... as per my earlier post i mentioned that im on the 2nd box of Black Mores conceive well gold after a stopped for 2months or so. 4 days before AF is due, i had very light pink discharge and thought AF is coming since when I first took black mores AF came 4 days earlier. I'm a very regular 26-28days cycle. on 28days i had very sharp pain on one side of my uterus, like a knife stabbing and letting go and stabbing again which last no more then 2minutes. I went to see my usual GP on the day itself but there was not much he could help besides giving pain killers. AF came only on day 30. Weird is that i had very heavy bleeding on the 2nd day of AF with clots which I dont usually get since my teens.. today is the 3rd day and im bleeding extremely light like when your period is coming to an end... not sure if its caused by the pills I'm on or otherwise...anyone experience this before?

In some cases, IVF is the best option. I know a couple who went straight to IVF. They said they did not bother with injections or SO-IUI, I can't remember the details but the man said something like "we knew we wanted to go for IVF right at the start", they went for it and were successful first time. After giving birth, IVF again, again successful, and their 2nd child is going to be born soon. I think the man told me they are slightly older (he did not elaborate so maybe his sperm has low motility which then only IVF can work). They used the famous Dr Tan Heng Hao of KK.

It depends on many factors. How old are you?

I was diagnosed with cyst on both ovaries and my specialist in KKH and now private specialist in Mt E both did not bring up any surgery to remove the cysts. Where did you do your consultations and surgery? I personally did not go for IVF as my first course of action, and am on pills+injections now with my fertility specialist and he has been most patient, informative and I feel secure in his care. He is so experienced due to his long years of doing this. He is almost 60 and in his bio he pioneered the laproscopy technique in Singapore. I'm 35. My hubby's sperm is tested above average, and I do ovulate a few eggs every month on the fertility drugs prescribed (clomid, letrozole, gonal F injections). Dr Lim (my doc) told me that the pills+jabs cycle I do is a 15% success rate a month, compared to IVF which is 20%. My husband said we should do this regime instead, because then we can do it over 6 menstrual cycles and its more cost effective. 15% x 6 = 90%

As for TCM, my fertility specialist Dr Lim told me to avoid. Also i think TCM takes a long time to work, so if you redirect your resources (time) to it its a waste of precious years. I don't know how old you are. But if you are above 38 I would advise you to go direct to IVF. If you are a Singaporean, it is subsidized in public hospitals, plus you can use Medisave in Public hospital IVF. Among the 3 public hospitals doing IVF, KK has the highest success rate. For citizens if you do IVF in public hospital I heard that after using Medisave you pay less than $1k cash each time.

Another thing is I remember govt subsidies for IVF are only given to women below 40 so I highly urge women who are nearing 38 to move on to IVF pronto.

Hi all,

My hubs and I have been trying to conceive since early 2015. We did not really take things seriously up till my MIL passed on and the idea of our child not being able to see his/ her grandparents got us thinking about ttc in a different light. We love children and our friends, relatives and even colleagues (some of whom got married after us) are now either parents or are pregnant. I have slowly learnt to be happy for others though at times I will secretly cry and wish/ pray that it will be us some day. My SIL got married last March and she's due in two weeks. The feeling is gnawing in me. I am very excited to welcome the lil prince but there are times I went through depression thinking about us. We have been married for 3 years since Nov 2012. For now, we are still ttc naturally. I have finally decided to turn to forums to give me the encouragement and a form of support as we embark on this journey which is physically, emotionally and mentally draining. Best wishes to one and all! :)

Hi thfifis, welcome. Unfortunately this forum tend to slow down a lot more. Maybe most of them had already pregnant that's why they never chat here already. Me ttc #2 for one year plus also been struggling. Hearing so many so many good news during this cny make me even more miserable.

Hi all, my wife and I started to try for baby since last Oct. I am 34 and she is 31 this year. We started to visit Dr Su since this Jan. Please advise when we should visit a gynae if we are still unsuccessful. Thanks.

Actually is up to you one. Some couples prefer to try naturally first then consult doctor after one year no success. Since u just started Dr su Jan, did she mention anything about u or your wife? You might wanna give see her for at least 6 months first. A lot of ladies here whom see Dr su manage to conceive in less than 6 cycles.

I never thought I would be saying this but i got my BFP today! I am still in shock as it is my first IVF cycle. I failed 2 IUI cycles last year which was also mentioned in my earlier posts. So girls, do not give up! There is hope. What helps me through this journey is faith and lots of praying. I believe that God has a plan for all of us.

@thefifis i understand how you feel. Friends and even family members who got married much after me have 1 to 2 kids. I'm so pressured by my family members that this CNY I felt so depressed and stressed I didn't want to go bai nian.

Remember, perseverance is key. Baby dust to all!

@prayinghard, thanks for the support! all the best for your number 2. :)

@summervine, congratulations! Enjoy your pregnancy journey! Anyways, true that. Sometimes people make it harder for us. the questions and statements they make can really be a mood dampener. My hubs and I have dabbled with the thoughts of going for IUI or even IVF. We are putting those on hold and still trying to conceive naturally probably till mid of this year due to work obligations. I have great respect for women who went through IUI and IVF. Read about these procedures and they are indeed very mentally, emotionally and physically challenging. Kind of having mixed emotions - scared and anxious.

@summervive, congratulations to you so happy to hear that! Hope everyone received your babydust and have good news soon. :)

Care to share where did you do your IVF?

Anyone know if you had IUI at private clinic and thereafter switch to KKH for IVF, would they allow you to do IVF with subsidy or there's a need to repeat the IUI procedure again? I've read somewhere, in order to have the IVF subsidy IUI is compulsory to do first.

@thefifis. I'm not sure for you, but I feel more assured if I have a plan. Hubby and I have tried to conceive naturally since early 2014 but no success and I felt like we were lost without any direction and the stress trying to "hit the target" every month has taken a toll on me. (And hubby cos he has to endure my crying). Yes, and the endless questions doubled the stress for me. Family members (Brother in law and cousins) who got married after me conceived within months of their wedding which made matters worse for me even though I am happy for them. IUI/IVF is mentally and emotionally draining. I don't find it physically painful, probably just slight discomfort.. it's just a process to follow through. It's good that you have a plan to try naturally until end of the year. Wishing you lots of luck!

@babysparkling.. I did it at Thomson, private clinic. I don't think it's compulsory to do IUI first. You should be able to go straight to IVF. Many people have done that.

How much did you pay? Any reasons that you would rather choose Thomson first and forego the subsidies than go to KK or NUH? Just asking for my own research.

Hi All,

me and my hub has been ttc but till now no results.
we been trying since Dec 2015 but wasnt very active tho. usually about once a week...
for the past two weeks, we been more active and does it every two three days...

but hubby said is very tiring... myself also find it tiring and more like a chore. :eek:10:
was also thinking if we dont try so freq, but with my irregular menses, it will be even more difficult to conceive...
just so confused and stress...! why is it so difficult to conceive!! :tsad:

ytd night was feeling emo and cried for being a failure, that im not able to have baby as easy as other women.
(hubby had a kid from previous marriage, and it didnt seems as difficult as it has been with me.)

i have started to drink DOM as i heard its good for women who want to conceive and even regulate menses (and with regular menses, it will be easier to conceive, i assume?)
i am also contemplating if i should go to see chinese TCM to tiao my body and faster get BFP.

im feeling abit of PMS ( easily fustrated and emotional...)... now shld be resting right, since its not possible to get preg now.?
