Do you know the cause of the premature delivery? If yes, you should look for a doctor who is experienced in that.

For dependant pass holder, you'll be paying private rates, even at our govt hospital (KKH). Which means that the bill won't be very much different if you choose other private hospitals.

There are mummies who have had bad experiences in KKH and other private hospitals. Ultimately you must decide cos KKH is SG's 'official' hospital for delivery and they specialise in women and children.

Hi nirmiti, sorry to hear about your firstborn.

I delivered at 36 weeks (baby considered slightly premature) and weight 2.3kg. Till date his lungs are still quite weak (he gets cough and cold quite easily) but it doesn't affect his development in other ways.

My gynae is Dr Peter Chew. To me, he is an experienced doctor and a very cautious one. He is at Gleneagles and only delivers there. But the waiting time at his clinic is very long so if you're prepared to wait, you can try him.

Gleneagles is probably the most expensive hospital to deliver in. Just a heads up in case you consider in the end to deliver there.

I am sorry to hear what happened really heartbreaking,

we delivered our daughter at kk I am on a dependants pass, we went private there and the service was great cost us around $4000, we could have gone private at another hospital but I really believed that that was the best place, usually if there is complactions you will be sent there, we are currentley having our third in june and have chosen to deliver there again,

Thankyou all, In KKH i m seeing Dr. Sadhana and she is really busy all the time...when u get there 8am u see her around 1-2 pm...so really long queue...

My delivery was done in India at 30 wk becoz water bag broke and after injection watre didnt stop so to avoid infection dr. wanted to deliver reyu ASAP...he didnt had any difficulty breathing or anything else....he was in NICU just becoz he was not able to suckle milk and for infection protection...he didnt need extra oxygen..and was able to do all other things as normal baby does after birth... my doctor (In India)thinks my membrane broke maybe due to infection
..but i have a thought that he was more long(his height was as ninth month baby at end of 7th month...and we both are tall)so my placenta couldnt bear his height...

I am sorry to hear what happened really heartbreaking,

Dont worry dear...he is still young and will cope up soon...just when u eat avoid to eat sour and cold things while you are breastfeeding him...this will make him suffer too...and it is normal with babies...so just take precautions..

Thanks for suggesting Doctor !!..what was yuour delivery cost and was ur son in NICU??

Hi nirmiti,

I'm no longer breastfeeding him and now that he's 1 year plus, he is better already. I'm also giving him multi-vitamins.

My hospital stay was approx $9k. No, my son wasn't in NICU. My package with my gynae was abt $2k which starts at 16 wks. That excludes all the vitamins and scans that I had during my pregnancy.

Hi, Nirmiti. Sorry to hear about the unfortunate events.

Your story reminds me of my first preg too. I delivered in NUH.

I had pregnancy complications: Placenta previa, started bleeding in my fifth month. Had to be hospitalised and on med to control the contractions coz Dr say too early to deliver. The bleeding is like our usual periods, lots of clots and very scary, from every few days to bleeding every day. Dr had to transfuse a total of 4 packs of blood to replace the blood loss. Then after 6wks of stay in Labour ward, I had Emergency C-Sec Coz Dr say all med had been given to the max level so have to take the bb out fast, if not both of us will be life danger.

I was bleeding very badly on the way to the theatre, can still remember vividly the commotion then... everything is so fast... from signing the operation consent to giving general anaesthesia to op to recovery area then back to labour ward for close observation... pphew.. so glad its all over.

My boy is delivered at 29weeks at weighs 1.3 also when he was borned. He was intubated coz he was not breathing when the dr took him out, they rescue him back to life and carefully nursed him back. It really breaks our hearts when we saw him. so tiny and yet so many tubes sticking into him... :-(

Thankfully, he recovered miraculously other than minor issues like jaundice and unable to digest milk well etc.. He stayed at NICU for 6 weeks and discharged home at 1.9kg. Now he is a healthy 3 years little naughty boy. I am always very grateful of the Drs and the nurses at NUH for the care and understanding of our fears and anxiety. Hope our next pregnancy will be more easier... you are very brave that you want to try to conceive again in such short period... I am still fearful now that my boy is already 3 and I still holding on... my husband wanted a second child but he also heartache to see me in pain again... dunno how...hai...

Hi ... you are so lucky and may god bless ur sweet baby 100 more yrs of healthy & happy life...which doctor were you seeing in NUH and how much total cost came..also of NICU..if u let me know would be great help...

I know it is too early too start again...and i feel like i m cheating my little baby...but i have to move on...it is already 6 yrs of marraige and no baby to take care of....I am 30 and DH 37 ...so clock is moving on ...also have PCOS and have diabetis in family..which make problem...I read some where that premature labour is again there in 2nd delivery ...so relly afraid of getting pg ..but want a baby for DH to experince the valuable love & care a baby can give....DH is very suppotive and left it on me to decide what to do...but we both wanted lots of children...we love children a lot...when we go anywhere we see so many babies...and mostly i cry when we see babies of my baby's age who are giggling and playing with their parents...it breaks our heart...

My baby was in NICU for 3 weeks and gain 200 gms..was 1.5 kg when passed away...but i think my gynae(in India) should have taken more care of me(I was in nonmetro city which has very few mordern facilities...also i think she ignored my PCOS which usually creates problem in 3rd trimester(or i forgot to mention to her ..though it was mention in my file)..in last checkup(7th month) before delivery..i had 150/90 BP and she only said i need to control intake of salt..but never gave any medicine to control my BP..I was 100kg and she said it is due to my weight...some time i feel so angry after researching about this PROM(premature rupture of membrane),GDM & PIH which mostly are caused due to PCOS...and feel like i m the curlpit here didnt control my weight..and have become giant (though weight cant be easly reduce due to pcos)...and as i have PCOS...my baby & dH has to suffer....i should be punished...badly...may be death sentence would be perfect for me...but i dont want my DH to suffer anymore loss..and he loves me morethan anything..and i know this from few incident ...when we failed at 1st & last IUI..Dr. asked us to move to IVF ...and he asked the doctor if it has any risk to mother and if risk is there then he dont want a baby....Also he took more Better care till i was with him than my parents in india ..he is the best blessing GOd Gave me..

.i was so shocked..but we wanted time to think as we are EP/DP and will cost 10k per try..so she gave me 3 more cycles of clomid and last one worked for me and i was pregnant with Reyu!!

Hi Nirmiti,

I was initially a private patient under Dr Ana. But after my first bleed, she warned me if I was to bleed again,I may need to hospitalised until I deliver. So she suggested that if I hospitalised for bleed, its better to downgrade to subsidize ward. If not the hosp fees can cost a bomb.

After my first bleed, I bled again within the week, then I was there until my boy came out. Due to my subsidized status, I do not have a specific dr looking after me. Every day the team dr will see me, sometimes the dr change. But even though I was a subsidized patient, I was always in labour ward for close monitoring. the drs could not stop my medications. They tried many times, each time they tailed down the med, my contractions came back, I bled again. So labour ward was single room for all mah... so my boy lucky loh.. My sister still joked that my boy does not want to stay 6 bedder unit.

The dr that operate on me and the one I liked the most is Dr Joseph Ng, he is senior consultant. I gave me the exact information that I want and gave me the confidence in him to take care of everything.

I stayed in labour ward for about 5 wks and my boy in NICU for 6 wks. My husband is a civil servant so have some subsidy also, we pay about $12k. If we had continue as private patient, our total bill will be around $70K!!

I am still under Dr Joseph Ng care which I chose him as my Obs and Gynae dr for future care.

What is PCOS? EP/DP?

Don't blame yourself, my dear. Nobody will want that to happen... We are also in pain...Its a blessing and brave of you that you are willing to try to conceive again... wish you best of luck... do let me the good news if you are pregnant again..:))

Pcos is Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome...ie small fluid cyst in ovaries which makes me subfertile...my harmones are in normal range though...
EP/DP means Employment pass and Dependent Pass
