Hi Ling Er, I was same as you when i 1st gave birth my son he also dun wan to latch on so we gave him bottle feed for the 1st 2days. Then when we bring him home, on the 3rd day then i got more milk then i start to breastfeed him and he learn to latch on. So dun worry.

Actually most bb prefers the bottle cos' it is easier to suck, for latching is harder, they got to suck harder.....give them time

For me too, tht time when my son was born he was in ICU, only one week later then come out, so he was bottled fed for a week....

Most importantly, don't give up and be patient continue to latch on your bb

So when my baby latch on then i also press on my breast to let milk flow .. So he get enough... Mostly hw we knw baby was full ???

Normally u latch one side and let him suckle for 10 to 15mins, then burp, then transfer to other breast, then burp.....

But some bb, like my son, can suckle till he fall asleep, so hv to wake them up to continue to suckle....

Hi Ling.er,

Congrats on the arrival of your baby.

My baby also prefered the bottle to latching. So for the first 3 weeks, I express and bottle feed. During the 4th week, I spent that whole week trying to latch him. I will always offer the breast first, try for half hr, if he still didn't want it, I will give him the bottle.

It was a tough 1 week but after that, he got the idea of latching.

Jia you.. It is possible to latch him.

My boy was like DIY's baby. First 3 weeks refuse to latch. 3rd week I went to see lactation consultant. She taught me alot of tricks on how to latch him and I succeeded :) He was 100% breastfed till 18mth old :)

It's hard to describe in words. Have to show it physically, that's why I decided to visit the lactation consultant. She even taught me to BF while lying down so that can rest more. And at the same time, I went down to try out different electric pumps before deciding on which one I liked (tried Avent Duo and PIS, end up find PIS too strong, preferred Avent Duo).

If nipple confusion really occurs, some babies will never latch on again. To prevent this, try cup, spoon or syringe feeding instead of bottle-teat-feeding. At the same time, keep offering to latch on. Medela has an infant cup feeder, reviewed at Medela Disposable Baby Cup Feeder |

Medela has a supplementary feeder, which connects the bottle to a tiny tube. This tiny tube is placed on Mummy's breasts to let baby latch on and suck without having to wait too long for milk. I think it is a wonderful invention! :)

ling.er, jiayou and dont give up!
I'm managed to successfully latched my son when he's 6 weeks old.
During the bf journey, had to bear with the up & downs and put up with his crying but I overcome the odds and persevere.

If I can do it so can you! :red:

walk and rock.. lol...means i walk while shaking her...but the shaking is those rocking kind..like gentle sway my body... try to latch on more often cause by pumping you are not able to empty your breast...

The safest way is to introduce bottle teat after 6 weeks when milk supply is well-established. Direct sucking stimulates supply much more effectively and saves time on washing, sterilizing, pumping, storing, warming.

Persevere and ensure baby is latched on correctly in order to get the milk.
If unsure, get a lactation consultant to check your latch. Once you get it right in the first week, things would be more smooth-sailing.

All the best! :)

Probably cause he cant latch on properly or he prefer the bottle?
Try not to wait till your baby is very hungry then latch.. cause he will get fustrated and will prefer the bottle teat instead.

ya do go see a lactation specialist. Without having seen one i may have given up bfeeding. I have been exclusively bfeeding for 15 months and still bfeeding.
