Bad experience at Dr Simon Ng's clinic Mt Alvernia

Bad experience with nurses at Dr Simon Ng's clinic - Babies and Children Specialist Clinic Pte. Ltd at Mt Alvernia

I have been seeing Dr Simon Ng Pau Ling for a year since my child was born in 2013.

Dr Ng is generally an alright doctor and which is why I have been going back since my child was born. However, his nurses are very rude which I had very bad encounter with and I am never going back ever again.

My child was down with fever on-off for few days and hubby and I decided to bring him to see a pediatrician. That morning, I called Dr Simon's clinic at around 11ish to make an appointment for 2pm that day. The clinic stop for lunch break at 12.30pm and reopen at 2pm. So my appointment at 2pm would be the first appointment. As usual, the receptionist noted my child's details and confirm my appointment for 2pm. For past 1 year, I always make appointment before I go down.

I reached the clinic at around 1.40pm and seeing that the door was locked, hubby and I decided to just take a walk and come back at 2pm. We reached back the clinic at around 2.10pm. There were already other patients around but Dr Ng was still not in yet. We went in and registered with the receptionist. We told the receptionist that we made an appointment at 2pm and she noted and told us to wait as doctor is not in yet. Meantime, she took our child's weight.

Shortly after, Dr Simon came back. Hubby and I were preparing to go in since we already made the first appointment. To our surprise, the receptionist called out for other patient to go in. Hubby and I felt weird and asked why we're we not the first to go in since we already made appointment at 2pm, ie the first appointment for the afternoon. The receptionist said cos we came in later. We told her but we already make appointment at 2pm and we were here even before doctor is here. The receptionist then told us she has to follow the queue. The receptionist was totally rude and just ignored us while we try to clarify why our appointment wasn't honoured. She continue to call the next patient to go in. Then we asked why is our appointment not honoured and she claimed that they always go by queue and never make appointment which is a load of nonsense. I been making appointment before I go and when I reached there telling them I made an appointment, they did not tell me they do not go by appointment. She claimed that it was the mistake of the morning shift receptionist. I told her we been going to the clinic and she retorted that we should all the more know. She was raising her voice at us progressively, totally unreasonable and rude and brushing us off. She simply refuse to let us go in and kept insisting she is just following the queue and we came in late, so we have to wait. Seeing that it was no point arguing with her cos she is totally unreasonable, we waited to go in see Dr Simon and told him what happened. We even verified with him whether the clinic take appointment and he said yes. Though Dr Simon apologize for his nurses's rude attitude, we are not ever going back again. It definitely dont't pay to come all the way to see Dr Simon, but to have rude nurses who are not clear about their own appointment system.

Look out for the tall skinny lady, with long hair, specs and fair complexion. Apparently, she works in the afternoon shift. Her attitude is down right rude, unhelpful and unreasonable and even when she is at fault, she refuse to acknowledge and try to resolve.

If anyone wish to go to this clinic and want to make appointment, better call to clarify first. These people dont't have a clue on what does appointment means.

Hi, so sorry to hear about your bad experience. Personally, I bring my baby to see Dr Simon too, since 2012. Usually I will also call to make an "appointment" but I think there's no priority given to those people. Normally the nurses on the line will simply take down the details and the time I'm coming. The taking down of those names is just so that they are expecting you, and they will take out the baby's file out first instead of searching for it later. That is from my own observation for the past 2 years.

I think you are being unreasonable. Getting q number is one thing, if everyone takes q, what happen to those walk in? They had to wait at the lobby till all those who cllaim had call to make appt? Doc apologise to you is due to comfort a insane mummy making noises and shouting across where i can imagine.

in all, i support the nurse in her unbias and fair to the rest of walk in customers

Agree that Dr Ng is a good doc but the nurse there cannot make it.

My lo is on total breastfeed and i sprained my shoulder a few months ago, the pain was excruciating even with the slightest movement. Went to GP and was prescribed with Anarex even thou I had repeated informed him that I am breastfeeding. I read from somewhere that Anarex is not safe during breastfeeding so I called up Dr Ng to check. The nurse by the name Jenny / Janice took down my query and contact, told me that Dr Ng will call me back on the same day, I waited the whole day without a call back while enduring the pain. Around 4pm+, i called back to speak to Dr Ng, only to be told harshly by the same nurse to wait for call back as "Dr is not free now" and got hung up. Waited till 6pm, was sure clinic already closed... Nothing happened, I called back clinic again and no one picked up... okay fine. Till 8pm+ there was no call back. Meanwhile I had to take care of my lo and fed her with this intense pain all the while.

Next morning, call up the clinic and explained to them my situation, only to be told to wait for call back. By then i was already fed up with the wait and the pain was killing me. I told them that I waited the whole of yesterday for nothing and when exactly is Dr Ng going to call me back. The nurse was no spring chicken and began to to raise her voice on me that she did not received any query of such on the day before... Wth! I can recognise her voice as i had spoken to her twice yesterday. I asked if her name is Jenny / Janice whom i had spoken to yesterday and she was like "no no no...", but when I asked for her name, she hung up on me! By then, i was really upset: partly of the pain but mostly of her attitude, it was downright irresponsible! I called back twice and no one picked up. Not giving up, I called again 20mins later and this lady with an innocent voice and sweet tone picked up. I told her my brush with Jenny/Janice and she apologised, said there must be misunderstanding somewhere, and she will get Dr Ng to call back asap. Well, waited for the whole day again and Dr Ng finally called back around 6pm to explain that it is best not to take Anarex as it contains Codeine. Good grief.... I endured the pain and waited for two days just for an advice! Btw Dr Ng told me he did not receive any request of call back from me the day before... That explains the integrity of the nurse(s) there.

Also notice that Dr Ng is sharing clinic with another doc, and there is this nurse in white coat who tends to the patients of the other doc. First time went to visit Dr Ng, I tried to register with her since she is sitting right in front of the counter next to the entrance, she didn't even look you in the eyes and just look away, while saying "behind" in a stuck up manner. Could be my raging hormones after birth but this is not the way to treat people even they got the wrong person unknowingly at the first time.

The nursing room was linked to the other consulting room and there were few occasions where Ms. White Coat will just barged in unapologetic... closing the door with a bang, sometimes while talking and laughing in her loud voice. LO was startled every time she did that and this became very frustrating, especially when lo was dozing off at the breast and the loud, sudden intrusion made her startled and cried. Never once had she said anything despite showing her our displeasure on her action, let alone apologise. This is just downright rude to begin with.

Saw that she can be quite friendly to her patients and nurses of Dr Ng at the counter, so dont know what exactly is her problem with us.

To be fair, Dr Ng is good and the nurses are okay at times (exclude Jenny/Janice), but given my experiences with them, there are more bad ones than good.

Oh well...
