I'm in HK. Do you know where will your husband or you be working? Let me know the location and I might be able to recommend.

Thanks so much in advance. My hubby will be working in Admiralty. His colleagues recommended Tsing Yi and TKO. Personally, I like Olympic Station (used to worked there 3 years ago but not sure if that area has changed).

I live in Park Island. But it also depends on how old your child is. From 0 to 2, it might be fine. Beyond that, you do need to send him or her out of the island for classes. But I like Park Island. Lots of play area, both indoor and outdoor. Not as busy or crazy as the rest of HK. Rentals are reasonable too

Thanks mummies! I will ask my hubby to check out the recommended areas. He is in Hong Kong the next few days to hunt for an apartment. By the way, is the transport in/out these areas convenient?

There're ferries from Park Island to Central and Tsuen Wan. And shuttle buses to Tsingyi MTR station, Kwai Fong MTR Station and Tsuen Wan MTR station. Taxis are allowed into Park Island after 8pm. But that will change from next year. I think taxis will be allowed in for about 20 hrs a day. Can't remember the details. I like Park Island. We've been here for 5 years. Oh, you can't drive into PI too.

jessmummy: International school is likely your only option. try to get into Singapore International School

if so, what are my options? my kids are in p1,3,4

2) paediatricuan- what are e costs like for consultation? w med avg how much?
what abt those jabs for babies?
jessmummy: jab package is around HKD5k, average around 500/time

3) GP - as foreignerz, is it super ex to see docs for basic common flus etc?
jessmummy: GP is mainly private, same cost for foreigners and locals.. 2-300

what abt dental treatmentfor kids & adults? avg place?

4) rentals- hub will be on tai koo place area i thk - tbc...

jessmummy: rental in taikoo is around 20k/mth

what abt hvg a car? what are the costs like and how much does it costs? just wondering if it makes sense to buy a car since there are 6 of us!
jessmummy: cars here are generally quite cheap. a new nissan is around 300k.. fuel is 18$/l.. parking is around 20+/hr in malls with 2hr freeparking w spending of 400..

5)part time cleaners- as i need some part time help to clean e house, wash clothes etc... are there such services in hk? avg price? any recommendations?
jessmummy.. pt cleaners around 50/hr

Hello there, just wanna ask if eating out is safe in HK? I'll be vacationing there and I am a little worried about the food condition there as I read some bad food reviews and stuff like that.

It is safe to eat in HK. Hawker food is not popular in HK while most people go to restaurants or fast food shop. But the spicy food is not popular in HK while Cantonese food could be found everywhere.

Hi jessmummy,

thanks a lot for the info. oh no, heard S'pore intl school hard to get in...
also heard that a gp consultation cost a mummy $100plus recently for common flu!
if $200-300 like u shared is much lower phew...
glad to hear jab package is around $5k which is similar to what we are paying here depending on what's in e package and if it is by pd.
Thanks for the info! appreciate it! ;)

Let me know if you need a contact for a pd. As long as you, husband and children are Sporean citizens, it should be easier to get into SIS but do call the sch and check first. Yes, the gp fees might be sightly higher. It ranges between HK240 to $360, rarely goes above HK600 unless you're seeing a specialist. I brought my son to the 24 hr outpatient clinic at Sanatorium Hospital in Happy Valley (similar to Gleneagles or Mount A) on Sunday night, it costs us less than HK500.
