Anybody advised to go for amniocentesis but never proceed?

Hi mommies.....

just received my oscar results yesterday... M veri worried & stressed now...
Results turn out to be 1:108 & 1:155....

Gynae advised to go for amnio test in 2 wks time. Is it compulsory to go? I read that most mommies who proceed with this test achieved good result. M just worried whether my baby wil be safe or not. M not worried about the cost of the test, just need to ensure nothin wil happen to dear baby during the whole process.

Any advise pls????

my triple blood test was like 1:211 and was given the option for amnio test... i was so afraid cos of the procedure... i know for sure whatever the result is we'll keep the baby. But gynae asked me this " do u want to worry for baby from now till due or u want to have a peace of mind and be prepared for it?" i was also afraid of the possible pain but for the sake of knowing my baby's condition, i decided to go ahead with it. The waiting of 2weeks for the results is like waiting for 2years.. and i am only 30yrs old..so sometimes age is not all that matters...


It's up to you if u want to go for it..no one can force you.

I never proceed with amnio, my fren also never proceed. I dun think Oscar very accurate as most ppl did Oscar, were told baby could be abnormal, then do amnio and found out that its normal. So we decided to save on the cost and the worry on miscarriage risk. I am still young so I think shd b ok.

Can't remember my result but on the very high risk side.

Gynae told me to go for amnio but i refused, end up went t a specialist at Camden where he did a very detailed scan, cost $500+.The doc told me if my baby has down syndrome, he will close shop!!

Waste $$ lo in my case.

Tat means d camden's result shows ur baby is fine?? Wic hosp did u go to for d 1st test? Did they take blood test & baby measurement at camden??

Hi Ros0818,

Yup,the Camden scanning helped. It wasn't a yes or no answer but the doc said baby's fingers were not 'crooked' as down syndrome kids usually are and that all her measurement was normal. Personally, I would not have gone for the Camden screening even cos I felt I would not be able to terminate the pregnant even if baby had dear son. Then what's the point but hubby said to go so I went. Btw, no blood test at Camden.

If there is no history in the family and you are relatively young, then dont't go stress yourself over it. I cried for 2 days when I got my Oscar test results but in the end, I told myself if I continue crying and the baby ends up normal, she will be a crying baby all the time . Even doctors make mistake sometimes, I heard of a case where the doc confirmed that a baby had dear son and the parents were thinking to keep or terminate the pregnancy.they decided to keep and the baby was born normal.

I kinda think it's a conspiracy between docs so they all make more money!!! Haha! But that's just my personal opinion ya?

I've heard of a case when mother went for Oscar AND amnio and baby was diagnosed to be abnormal. Everyone told them to terminate but they decided to keep baby regardless. In the 5th month detail scan, doctor told them baby is actually perfectly normal. Imagine if they decide to terminate a normal baby then! How much can u trust those scientific scans? U decide urself... I'm not gng to trust them 100%.
