Anyone with ADHD toddlers..??

haha, how active is your toddler?
Think it's too young to label yr child ADHD. Unless he is very accident-prone & has been to A&E for falls or cuts.
My 17-mth old girl is quite active & doesn't like to nap. Fortunately, she doesn't jump from high places or climb our stairs (yet).
In sunday school, she is with the boys (as in not sitting & always moving ard & wanting to play.)
Luckily, there are brief quiet moments too. I bring her to work for playgrp every week. I guess it helps that I'm a therapist. hee
She can talk, so she works off some of her excess energy via the mouth. She loves attention & tends to do inappropriate things to get attn.
It is really not the same when it's my own kid. I used eye contact & low firm tone & she did the same thing to my helper. :embarrassed: That worked for most of my clients.
So now I use time-out (as in ignoring her or silent tx) for 1 min when she throws stuff. I don't use naughty corner cos she'll prob go into full-blown tantrum. Sometimes I put her in her cot.
She's generally a sweet-natured girl so just keeping quiet & turning away is good enough to make her pause & think twice. I find that the more I talk, the excited or pleased she gets. =.=

am quite sure of it.. coz he IS accident prone but luckily only scratches n bruises..
i did my research on the net, n it seems that my son has ol the symptoms listed.. he can't even sit still for a min.. n always on the 'go'.. i tried ol methods to make him understand, but to no avail.. i scold, i did the ignore method, also no use.. :embarrassed:

Accident prone = ADHD? I dun think so right?
All kids are accident prone coz they run instead of walk, they look some where else when they are running/jumping/walking instead of looking in front and be aware of their surroundings.
kids below 5yrs old has "short term" memory, u can scold them or discipline them this min, 5mins later they will do it again. Thats why we have to keep repeating n telling them not to do certain things.

Officially, doctors can't diagnose a child with ADHD until he is ard 6 yrs old. The internet checklists usu don't mention that it applies to kids aged 6 and older.
Cos most toddlers & many preschoolers, esp boys & even my girl, will test positive. so it's not "chun" at all. Lay people may get the wrong ideas from internet.
The only way to "diagnose" preschoolers is frequent visits to A&E cos they are so active & reckless. A few bumps & scratches every week are normal in preschool boys (<3-4 yr old). If he gets bad bruises or small bleeding cuts or breaks something EVERY DAY or childcare teachers keep complaining, then maybe it could be ADHD, poor motor skills or something else.
Preschool boys tend to be impulsive. Behv training can help. You can read up abt that. Or sign him up for gym to work off the excess energy. Or sign him up for full-day childcare if you can't manage 2 kids.
It is not helpful to keep thinking he has ADHD, esp if other adults have no problems managing his behv or you used to be able to manage his behv (prior to birth of sibling).
You just need to be very consistent & patient in guiding your boy. Things shld look better when cognitive, lg & emotional development r more well-developed (ard 5 to 6 for most boys of average ability).
It is good to start enforcing discipline early
