Shashan - Dr Foong said my embryo wasn't developing into fetus, reason was more to the quality of that particular one. Are you going to start a fresh cycle soon? Which doctor are you with?

Good luck to all of us!
Hi, I'm with doc Yu su ling from SGH. My problem is due to I hav premature aging ovaries, thus is about egg quality too, she prescript a kind of new hormone pill that us is doing research and got quite a good result, my second cycle egg quality improved due to the helps of that medicine. Now start taking the pill for 4 months to improve my eggs quality and quantity, thus injection start in oct.

I ended up doing a D&C procedure at 7 weeks, as my hcg levels were still going up at the time but since it would not be a viable pregnancy, both doctor and I decided to end it then. I also requested a genetic analysis on the chromosome abnormalities, but none were dectected, so doctor concluded that it was just this particular embryo was of poor quality.

Hi All,

May i find out the followings

1.) is the waiting time long to have IVF done at government hospitals?

2.) Is the government co-funding of $3K applicable only at government hospitals? and cant be used at private hospitals?

3.) Is the government co-funding of $3K used for one time only?

3.) Is KKH considered a government hospital?

4.) do i need to see a GP to refer to government hospital? in order to get the extra $3K grant?

5.) How many times can i use medisave to pay for IVF? My understanding is $6K for 1st cycle, $5K for 2nd cycle and $4K for 3rd cycle?

Much appreciated for any kind replies.

1) Waiting time at Kandang Kerbau Hospital is about 3mths.
2) 3K govt grant is applicable for all ART treatment under govt hospital. (fresh cycle, <35yrs old & put in 2 eggs) If done under private hospital, only can use medisave.
3) Kandang Kerbau Hospital is govt hospital
4) You can go to polyclinic to get referral letter to Kandang Kerbau Hospital to do all fertility screening done at subsidise rates. Once completed, they will refer you to kkhivf centre where you will be paying private rates. GP referral is consider under private rates. Alternatively, you can make appt with kkhivf directly but also charge under private rates.
5) medisave deductible 3x in 1 lifetime (6k, 5k, 4k).

I have been seeing Dr Foong for 4+ years, and he is brilliant. His pro-activeness and bedside manner are one in a million. I conceived my first set of twins through IUI, 3 years ago. (after 1 year of trying-have PCOS,Endo) and and now after 2 cycles of IVF/ICSI, I am 20 weeks pregnant...with another set of twins! ( I tried countless IUI's over the course of 2 years, before I tried IVF)
The IVF, and the freezing of the embryos totaled about 15K. None of which I can claim from my health insurance. You have to take into account, the egg retrieval is done under General Anesthetic, and you need a bed in the hospital for recovery after the eggs have been removed/replaced,even though it's only for a few hours.I guess in a private hospital, this can be pricey.

Hi, It's just a suggestion, u may want to try SGH Dr Yu su ling first, at first I tried private before too, but I went back to SGH as that's not only a hospital, is a research centre and institution. And when u seek got ivf treatment, is charge as private, the nurses there r very friendly too, thus I was thinking instead of paying for environment, u may want to pay for quAlity of doc....

Pinkbubblegum,

I was successful on my second attempt, using frozen embryos. I responded very well to the egg stimulation, and harvested over 30 eggs!! - although that was not without side effects! The embryologist defrosted (?) 3, and told me which were the better looking ones, I then implanted 2.(on the 1st Cycle, I only implanted 1).
Hope that helps! Am more than happy to chat about this process, as it can be daunting and downright scary! (well I was )

Thnx MinaKochang.

Does it means GP referral letter only qualifies for the subsidised screening @ KK hospital. I still have to pay private rates @ KKHIVF centre?

Cheers

Yes, all fertility screening (HSG, laporoscopy) and blood test will be charged under subsidize rate until you are referred to IVF centre. Once you enter IVF centre, all procedure will be charge as private rates.

If time is not favorable for you, you may want to skip all steps and call kkhivf centre directly for appointment. But you will be charge under private rates.

If you can wait, I would recommend you to get a referral letter from any polyclinic. They will make appt with Kandang Kerbau Hospital where you will be paying subsidised rates for consultation, fertility screen, blood test.

Most ladies choose either Dr SF Loh or Dr Sadhana. If you want to assign a doctor, you also will treated as private patient so no subsidy. My suggestion is get all those fertility screen done under subsidize rate first, when confirm to do IVF then assign doc.
