The National University of Singapore (NUS) Infant and Child Language Centre looking for infants exposed to mainly English and Mandarin who are turning 13-14 months or 17-18 months between June – September to take part in a new study.
During this study, your child will listen to a set of words that are accompanied by pictures on a computer screen while seated on your lap. This will take approximately 10 minutes. Thereafter, you will be asked to fill our a short questionnaire regarding your child’s language exposure. The study can be conducted either at the NUS Infant and Child Language Centre, for which we offer reimbursement for two-way taxi fares or it can be conducted in your home. If you choose to come down to the lab at NUS for the testing, we will be able to administer the Bayley Scales of Infant Cognitive Development assessment for your child at no cost. Unfortunately, we will only be able to do an assessment of your child’s vocabulary size for home testing due to logistical reasons.
Your child will also be awarded a certificate of participation and a small gift.
Participants’ information will be kept confidential and used solely for the purpose of this research. All of our research protocols are approved by the NUS Institutional Review Board.
